Just wanted some feedback on how people reinstalled their crank sprocket. My crank sprocket was a pita to take off and its rough getting it on as well.

Some crank sprockets slide right on. Was yours difficult to reinstall, if so how did you accomplish this? Socket and a hammer? Start Pounding?

precisely. pound till about 1/16" away from the oil pump (just eye ball it, very close).

The crank sprocket should not slide on by hand if the woodruff key is present. Use the appropriate tool. Anything less is some shade tree stuff. You risk damaging the thrust bearing.

dino has made this argument to me. It is valid, but in my 15+ times i've hammered on a crank sprocket or crank pulley on various shortblocks haven't shown that issue yet, but i've also done it for years. Maybe I have been lucky. Very neat tool by the way dave. I cringe at the thought of putting that much stress on the inner threads of the crank snout. I try to avoid that at all costs

The method used by the tool is no different than installing an ARP head stud. It is much more dangerous to use the stock crank bolt or an extended one from the hardware.

The tool threads in by hand, and you use a socket to hold it still. A second wrench applies the torque against a bearing/washer and pulls the pulley/sprocket into place.

You can always just go rent a tool kit from advance or autozone and then get your money back on it. Runs a bit out of pocket but you get all of it back.

DO NOT POUND a crank pulley on, whatever you do only use the appropriete tool to install it or make your own. All you need is a bolt that is 2" longer than the crank pulley bolt as well as a nut and some washers or a thrust bearing for the bolt/nut.

Mikey gives bad info 50% of the time, this one is pretty damn bad.

If you just HAVE to pound it use a piece of hardwood against the pulley. Just be careful!

Oh yeah, if you have an oven near by or you're good with a torch you can get the pulley good n hot, pick it up with gloves and get a good cheat on starting it. Helps in getting it started straight and about half way on. Just depends on your experience.

There are probably a good 50 or 60 PT Cruisers and SRT4's ready to go out like 2012 in Arizona because of hammered crank pulleys. I should alert the media.

mushroom bearings, amber lamps, meh. it can be done either way. One way is favored by some but requires the tool, the other way works but has potential of damage. You've got to weigh your options and choose one or the other.
