My local junk yard quoted me 500 dollars for a used motor. 30 day warranty for no noise, leaks, or burning. Any recommendations for simple modifications or parts I should get along with the motor to kill a few birds with one job. Also as far as brand of water pump or timing belt (reliable brands?)

Go with the Partsdinosaur.com mechanical tensioner kit. Its 130 bucks and includes the tensioner, belt, and idler pulley. Probably order the water pump at the same time. Any water pump will do.

While the motor is being put in you may want to get Prothane motor mounts, open the IM entrance up to 60mm, underdrive pulley, and maybe a header.

Not sure what you are looking to do, but those all go on anyway, less work when all is said and done.

Thats without going into the motor. Now, while its being timed, you could get cams ;)

I did a little search and it seems that porting the IM can be tricky, I think I will stay away from that. I just want my car to run normal. Ever since I bought it in 2002 the motor has been poopy. Seals worn and whatnot. Everybody knows what Im talkin about.

The mentioned add-ons: pulley, cam, headers sound interesting. I will try to purchase all of them from Partsdinosaur, but I already hit a snag:

Log into 2gnt home page and checkout the ariticles ALL pages. Its all in alphabeticle order. Use the search and make use of the tabs above.

Do your regular maintence before you decide to the the turbo route but I would do a Compression test. This would help you determined for you need a rebuild or it's good. Getting a junkyard motor it's 50/50 chance. Check all fluids in it also bottom of the oil cap.

I hope I get a descent motor, cant get any crappier than the one I have now. I will certainly do a compression test. I am not too serious about the turbo, but it would be nice.

While the motor is out, might as well do the headgasket (OEM). It`s easy enough to do, and it would be a shame for it to go when you have the motor in the car already. Just my 2 cents.

Good suggestion, especially since it is already a used motor. That one did not cross my mind.

I did more search about the AFX pulley and apparently Howell discontinued it.

Be careful about the UDP from ebay. I purchased on to replace mine due to a knick in it and it was machine two big and just slide onto the crankshaft. Took them a month before they would do anything about it. Just a heads up on that.

My Ebay UDP slid on with no effort as well, but it was baking at 500 degrees. When it cooled down it was on the crank firmly.

I am starting to have second thoughts about the MP 60mm throttle body....would it be more cost effective to:

-Buy a used exhaust manifold and throttle body and take it to a machine shop to get bored out?

Go for the MP or do the Jeep TB mod. IIRC a stock TB can only be bored to 55mm.

When I had my Talon, I had the MP 60mm TB, and I used a dremel to get the intake manifold up to size, on the Eclipse I brought it to a machine shop that I deal with on a daily basis and they machined it for me after measuring it out to make sure that they would not bore through the wall (I have a 57mm bore tapered to 60mm on this one). Cost was $35, and that was including them blasting and cleaning the manifold.

Yes, I have a stock intake manifold on my Eclipse. If you are saying that the MP 60mm TB is not easy plug and play, as other threads have mentioned....Do you think it would be a good idea to:

_buy a used junk yard intake manifold
_buy MP 60mm tb
_take both to a local machine shop and have them bore/port polish it and fit them together for me.

Once it is ready I take the revamped TB and intake to the mechanic to bolt on to the new (used) motor.

You could bring an intake manifold to a machine shop, or if you have a dremel or die grinder you could do it yourself. No need to have a mechanic install it, aside from swapping sensors, only 2 bolts are involved. 6 fasteners if you are counting the sensors.

yeah and in within a short amount of time, the junk ebay turbo will become ruined. Certain things I do buy off of ebay but other things I stay away from. Forced induction is one of them, unless I can verify the information on the turbo. Its a 50/50 chance you might luck out and only have discoloration on the piping, but on the other hand you could have a larger issue. I would recommend spending the extra money on either a hahn turbo kit or a star turbo kit....both have been used by various members on here.

I called a local machine shop and they are willing to port/polish my intake manifold and fit it with my incoming Modern Performance 60mm TB for relatively cheap. nice

I think it would depend on the condition of your block. Since your gonna have the head off anyways, why not replace the rod bearings and the pistons rings if they are in fair condition.
