129560, Need a parts List. Posted by 95baser, Feb-09-10 07:41 PM
Alright, So, I have a new plan of attack for my 95 GS. I just purchased an Explorer last night, so my 2G is no longer going to have to be the DD.
The goal, a streetable 250-300 at the wheels, by way of forced induction. The problem, lack of knowledge. The question, a parts list of what works best with the other "bolt-ons". I would like it to be as efficient as possible, while minimizing the look of a lot of work under the hood. Sleeper style.
I do appreciate, I have used the search function, There is just so many options, I just want something that is going to be extremely reliable, and I am willing to take the car off the road for this. I just dont want to spend 10k on this build though.

For whatever you decide to use on your setup I would suggest you use MS to take advantage of whatever you use to the fullest. IMO

You sure you searched? True there is several different setups and your going to have to choose. If your mechanically inclined just have a shop do your work. Get portfueler. Also re-look at the wiki it has enough info and then some for you. Come back when you have "specific" questions not broad ones.

If you are only looking for 250-300HP, and want a simple and affordable setup, I would recommend the following:
Built bottom end with forged pistons (low comp) and forged rods New water and oil pump ARP head studs and quality head gasket Upgraded valve springs, stainless valves, PT cruiser rockers/lifters PortFueler: Easy to install and tune and can handle well over 300hp Hahn or Treadstone turbo kit, run at around 15psi FMIC, or quality thick core SMIC New 3" turbo back exhaust system
None of the above is too difficult to install, so if you have the time and the know how you can do it all yourself.
As far as ignition goes, if you are running 15psi or less on a 16G or similar turbo, you will be fine running on the stock map on a good tune. I wouldnt go any leaner than 11.5-12 AFR. I recommend using the PF over MSnS due to ease of installation and tuning, but if you have future plans of a more aggressive setup, you may want to go with MSnS as it is a more powerful and versatile setup. You also have to keep in mind how often you will be driving this car, if you have to pass rigorous state inspections, etc.
Good luck, and keep us posted on whatever path you choose to take!

Luckily for me, Floirda doesnt have those emissions test. Other wise None of my cars would have ever passed. Thank you, thats what I was looking for. A good basis to know what is necessary to run what I was wanting to put down.
Its just there are so many options, Im not sure what is a tried and true set up. Thats the difficulty. Just wanted something thats been ran, experienced, and is reliable. Thanks again.

No need for any head work unless its absolutely neccessary. And most of the setups you read on the forum are tested and true. And for management: MS is a better bang for the buck(and better period) but portfueller will be more expensive and won't offer as much as MS will, however it will be easier to tune.

Agreed. None of the head work I listed above is ncessary, but it's all a good idea if you ask me. Stainless valves will provide peace of mind, and its nice to get a performance set of springs over the stock ones. The PT equipment will enhance oiling of the head components as well, which is always a good thing.
PF is expensive, and is not as versatile or powerful as MSnS, but it is easy to install and tune. It also makes the car idle and cruise like stock which makes it far more streetable and will make for better gas mileage.
If he is only looking for 250-300, I would say PF is a nice option. If he has plans of producing 350HP or more down the road, or wants to make it more of a dedicated track car, then MSnS is probably the better option. Not having to pass emissions is also a nice incentive to go with the MSnS :)

I dont plan to make it a track car or any of that. Just wanting a little bit more than I have now. Once I am ready for a fully built machine, I will most likely go with a 3000Gt VR4, or a GSX. Just my preference for all wheel drive, safety is a factor for me. Thanks for the quick and useful information.
