12951, leakin sumthin Posted by vegasdsmr, Jan-25-02 06:44 PM
fellas, i dont wanna miss out on my trak debut tomorrow.
i am leakin fluid that isnt as thick as oil but same brownish color. the spot that the leak looks like it is comin from is the valve cover breather. but, after i jakked the car up, i can see from bottom lookin up that the bottom side of the intake runners are covered in the fluid also, only the two on the driverside.
also, my tranny, pass side, is covered in it, sum green thiing that sits above the middle beam (crossmember), and the crossmember is coated in the fluid also.
at work today, for 5 hours, i left about 2 or three drops. since ive been home, and had her jacked up, she pissed a few drops. all night last night, she left about a 1 foot slidin puddle down the slope in my garage.
it looks like all the *things* that are on the firewall side of the engine, below the valve cover are soaked in this fluid.
i took a taste and it tasted like oil. i checked the oil b4 work, and i was low--l--------max (where l is) so i put in 1/2 a quart.
u think its my breather that soaked everything, and when the car is parked, the oil seeps down, or is something else goin on.
i have smelled a burnin smell for about a week now around the rear part of valve cover (believed it was pcv valve hose).
any ideas?? i goin to the trak tomorrow!

Hmm if it's green isn't it coolant? Try to get rid of the leak or you won't pass tech inspection if they notice it...good luck

im figurin its oil. the green peice, like a plastic housing. right above the precat, its where the suspension peice, maybe axle (forgive my uneducated azz), connects to the tranny.
also, the alternator is clean and dry. the black cover? that sits next to the alternator, towards the dr. side, is covered in fluid.
thanks

pwer steering fluid, a lil on the min side, but decent amount. i should fill a lil, any suggestions on that?
furthermore: i checked my pcv valve to see if the breather was gettin all the pressure/oil, and it was workin fine (did chilton's test too).
everything leads to the breather not functioning properly. the filter like cloth is soaked in oil, and there is fresh oil chillen on the valve cover underneath it, and down the engine.
the oil reaches about 6-8 inches from the dr side corner to the pass side of the engine. where the valve cover gasket seal is made.
this sux, if i put the tube on the vetilation spout, or whatever u wanna call it, all that crap is gunna go into my intake and new t/b.
do other n/t guys experience this w/ the use of a breather???
guess i get on her a lil too much.
any other suggestions are appreciated.......

If its oil comming out of your breather filter on the v.c. then you might want to to a compression check. Cause when i jacked up my rings i started getting oil out my filter, (but in large amounts due to the boost) If you compression is low your probably getting more blow by than usual, which is raising the pressure in the v.c and causing oil to come out the breather.

well, from pass side #1-drivers side, #4. compression is as follows. 1- 190 2- 170 3- 185 4- 190
plugs were in good condition, coulndt find gap tool so i couldnt install new ones. there was a little carbon deposits at the tip, by wherre the spark comes from, but im not worried about that.
i attatched a hose from the crankcase spout to the intake, and no leaks to or from the autostore. also, after i cleaned up the enginebay and parts below, i had no leak throughout the night, or no drippage onto my garage floor.
anybody sellin a catchcan?? any recommendations for a good breather filter? i had one that extreme motorsports sells(~15$) and it worked fine for about 6 months. now it is crapola.
tia, and any other suggestions are welcome
