Hey all, Newby here...been lurking for a while and finding most things in the search. I have a new issue. My car is a 98 GS Spyder, auto trans. The car is bone stock except for Torque 5 rims. I have a noise/vibration coming from the front left. It sounds/feels like when you have a flat spot on a tire. It only happens when I release the gas pedal. It goes away when I accelerate or if I slip the trans in neutral. Does anyone have any experience with anything like that? Thanks.

This can happen with worn motor mounts. It can even happen with normal motor mounts, because that front MM has a bolt that is smaller in diameter than the hole it goes through.

I replaced the motor mounts and trans mount about a month ago. I'll double check them.

has this problem began within the past month? if so perhaps this indicates something you did then is the culprit

It just started yesterday. I removed the wheel and checked for anything obvious but found nothing. I couldn't duplicate the problem with the wheel off the ground.

OK...on the way home from work last night the problem got worse. It now occurs on and off the gas and in neutral. It does not change with the steering angle and does not change with breaking.

Jack up your car and shake the wheel side to side, and up and down. See if you notice any looseness in the ball joints, and tie rod ends. if not crawl up under your car and check the cv shaft. Push and pull see if it has and clunking noise. Let us know what you find.

...problem solved. It turns out the garage that did my front-end alignment and tire rotation didn't torque my left fron wheel properly. After the lugs were tightened the problem went away. There were three other lugs on the other wheels that were barely finger tight.

Wouldn't advise going back to that shop. Dumb ass techs like that make us all look bad.

They gave me a 1 year extension on the alignment warranty but I'm not sure I'm going to use it. We'll see how the dollars are flowing when I need an alignment next time.

I'm glad it didn't get loose to where the wheel came off. I had an explorer that lost a front wheel going down the highway...not fun.
