129090, no power to coil w/key in on position- i think its computer? Posted by POS_DSM, Dec-21-09 07:25 PM
got out to my car last week and the battery was dead from a drain ive got if i dont turn off my blower motor. after i charge the battery, the car turns over but wont fire up. after a little investigation, i realized the coil wasnt getting power from the center wire on the harness whenever the ignition is in the "on" position (which explains why i wasnt abe to roll start it that morning). it does, however get power when the car is starting and the key is in the "start" position.
heres what ive done so far: -replaced asd relay -replaced ignition switch (i knew it wasnt gonna do anyhing but my stepdad insisted i try it and he paid for the new one) -checked fusible links
-i took the plug wires off, put other plugs on and watched while somebody started it, all the plugs fired normally during starting (when the coil is actually getting power). this leads me to beleive that the CMP/CKP are working properly (otherwise the coil wouldnt be working at all, correct?)
-some people have suggested i check out fuel- i havent electrically tested anything, but i can hear my fuel pump turn on when my key goes in the on position. i havent checked my injectors but i can smell fuel im my garage when im trying to start the car. if its possibly related ill defently check everything out more, but fuel is not my current issue (we'll see if i can say the same thing once i actually get power to the coil)
i started checking for continuity from my ignition switch forward, and ive got power all the way to the #14 pin ("ignition switch") at the computer (shuts on and off when ignition goes in and out of on position)
soo now my question is where do i go from here? if i get power all the way to my computer, which pins is it supposed to come out of when the key is in the 3rd position?
based off this chart should i check out pin #21 or 41? or does the primary ignition cirguit go through the ASD relay first?
i really appreciate the help, trying to figure out what is wrong with this car is freakin ruining my chrismas break and my parents are starting to get pissed off that my cars not running and pusing me to take it to the shop (even though im so close to figuring it out, based on process of elimination)

1st off....DO NOT MAKE MULTIPLE posts for the same issue. Your going to find you irritate the community to the point they arent willing to help you.
Based on yuor other post, you have spark while cranking but the 12v+ drop out with the key on. As i already posted.....that is NORMAL.
if you have spark while cranking, you can smell fuel and the engine is ingesting air, then you need to check compression and timing next.
