12908, I need new cams-where do I get them? Posted by esi420, Jan-25-02 05:22 AM
I took my block, head etc to the engine shop today for machining.
Im getting a valve job, bore .020 and hone, crank redone, engine balanced, hot tank dipped, and getting the head pressure tested.
My rightside cam has one lobe that has worn through the hardened coating and also slightly damaged the rocker.
The engine guy told me the cam was junk, so Im going to get new rockers($$) and I also need two new cams.
As far as I know they dont make good aftermarket cams yet, so i am going to buy factory cams.
The only place I found them was at carparts.com, but they only listed them for 90-94 4g63(wrong motor) at $192 a piece and the rockers are $14 a piece
Where can i get new cams and rockers for a good price?
Sorry about the long post
Thanks guys
Derek

www.howellautomotive.com has both. cams are really exspensive and from what i've read they dont fit properly. but you can just get thew new PT cruiser rocker arms, far better quality then ours.

as far as i know no one makes performance cams for our cars yet, but if you check on asog.net in the forsale forum, someone listed that they talked a dealer into 15% over cost on any OEM parts for being in a chrysler/mitsu club. the cam for the 4cyl avenger is the same as the eclipse

Yeah no one has perf cams out for us yet.
Crane has been "fixing" their neon cams to drop in our for probably cloose to a year now. The only way you can get these to fit is to index them yourself.
Crower should have cams out for us in a few month(crossing my fingers)

Jason Esi-T, you are a life saver. Thats everything I need. Hes gonna get back to me with the condition, but I assume they are good because I had my head apart at that time and mine were good.
Thanks, you saved me almost $400

I just happened to see them today on ebay and wasn't really thinking anything of it until I saw your post. I'm just happy they're what you needed.
Good luck with your rebuild and keep us all updated! (I'm jealous!) :-)
