my car wouldnt start yesterday, and i figured out that the coil isnt getting power when my key is int he on position (gets power when someone turns the key in the start position though. checked the fuses, those are fine. i thought it might be the asd relay, so i went to the parts store, they idnt have exactly that one, but they had one for the fuel pump and they appear to be the same, an i tried that, the car still wont start... where should i go from here?

Coil only gets power for 15 secs when you first turn the key on. Then the ECU poweders the ASD up during cranking. Concept: Why power the coil if your not starting the car?



During cranking, check to see if you have spark? Injector pulse? and fuel pressure.

Long shot, but if the main connector on the harness under the throttle body that connects the crank position sensor to the ECU is loose/damaged/disconnected, the ECU will trip the ASD.

Search on how to backprobe the ECU for CKP/CMP signals with a volt meter.

first thing i checked was spark, its got that on all the plugs when its starting, and gets power to the coil when its starting, but doesnt when the keys in the on position. i can smell fuel when im trying to start it so i know its got that, i just gotta figure out why i cant get power to my coil (except when starting)

it might be important to add that ive got an issue with my blower motor constantly having power, i left the switch for my vents on "2" overnight, and completely drained the battery (this has happened several times in the past 2 weeks). clearly something bad happened overnight... theres the definite possibility it has something to do with my blower motor getting constant power... does the blower motor get power in the 2nd and 3rd key position or just the 3rd?
