129047, ignition problem Posted by POS_DSM, Dec-16-09 03:23 PM
my cars battery dies last night cause ive got a short. i live on a hill so i tried roll starting it, which always works, and it didnt. i ended up charging my battery and my car wont start now. i took 2 plugs out and grounded them, the coil works. now that its charged up the car starts great until you take the key back to the ignition spot. so im thinking about primary ignition and whatnot now. got my test light out, the middle wire going to the coil gets power when someone puts my key in the start position, but not when the keys in the ignition. the middle wire should get power when the keys in the ignition position shouldnt it?

Coil should only get +12v when the ASD relay is on. It's on for a few seconds after you turn the key to the on position, and when the engine is running or cranking.

hmm thats what i thought... well its definetly not getting any power when the key is in the on position. that explains why i couldnt roll start it and why it starts up great til the key goes back to the on position. all my fuses are fine, i guess the relays burnt out? i barely understand wiring diagrams but im gonna go check out my haynes manual
