128729, Question about my crappy, inconsistent, idle condition
Posted by jdpilot, Nov-16-09 02:42 PM
I havent posted in forever. My car hasnt been registered since 2005. Been garaged all this time. I usually start t monthly. I have a bimmer that has taken all my time and attention.
Anyway, heres my question. I am thinking I have water in the tank but need to bounce this off you cats.

I was away on business for quite a few months. I forgot to top her off when I left so she say for 4 months with a 1/4 tank of gas and wasnt started. This was during summer. Anyway, I pulled her out 4 weeks ago to give her my annual wash, wax, and general lovin! Filler her with gas that was treated with "stabil" as she sits for so long. Anyway, last week I started her and every so often she stutters at low RPM if I floor the gas. When I start her I always;
1-Reconnect battery
2-Turn key until I hear fuel pump stop
3-Then I start her
4-I wait until she is at operating temp, then I feather the throttle.

This issue that appeared last week is SUPER inconsistant. Sometimes it appears immediately and lasts a while, other times it comes and goes real quick. It doesnt stay and always throttles away. Sounds like misfiring/backfire/exhaust pop.

Since this appeared I dropped a bottle of dry gas in the tank. The isopropyl type. The condition is still present and I waited 48 hours for the dry gas to really do its thang.
When it occurs my A/F gauge always shows a "lean" condition. Full red on the blinky lights.

My vaccum gauge is acting normal. Steady 15inches and drops/raises properly when gassed.

I am puzzled AS IT IS SOOOO INCONSISTENT. Could it be fuel pump? Plugs? I would think if the pump was on the fritz it would do it ALL the time.Or is there still water n the gas that the drygas didnt cure? help!
