Sooner or later I'm going to be pulling my motor and right now my coolant looks like a light brown milkshake(literally). Once I get the motor out, is it possible to clean the heater core without having to remove it? Water hose maybe? I don't know what the physical makeup of the core looks like. The reason I ask is because I know alot of that crap will be inside of it and I don't want it going through the new radiator and lines once I put everything back together. No, bypassing it is not an option since I need it for heat.
I was thinking of maybe doing a flush before I pull the motor, but I figure that's probably a waste of time since almost everything is going to be replaced.

You can just hook a hose to one of the ends and turn it on full blast. That'll blast most of the junk out. If you're still worried about it later you can do a proper cooling system flush after you get everything back together.

You could still do a flush before you pull the motor. While you've got the flush/cleaner running through the motor you can then just drain and go forward with pulling your motor. I would imagine that would help clean up some of the garbage.

I think this is somethign I should do before I button it mine all back up. Just running a hose in there?

Which direction does the flow go? Top hole to bottom hole, or bottom to top?

Yeah, doesn't matter, there's no 1 way valves or anything

Although to make the process less messy, you may wish to attach a drain hose on the other end.

yeah...

I was thinking of a backflush, but ok. You could just attach it to where the hose goes into the thermostat housing and put a bucket under the other small hose line headed to the water pump.

Thanks guys. I'll just flush it with the water hose and use a jug to catch the crap that comes out of it.
