ive recently got the motor back from the machine shop and have since been breaking it in..

standard built bottom end, je, eagle, MLS arp studs, bla. with new oil and water pump..it has~650 miles on it,staying under 4k, no boosting (waste gate off) and mainly city driving.. no issues untill i notice small pools every morning...and now as ive tracked coolant is slow missing day by day...when i drive my temps are 180~210 egt 1100 vac ~-18/-19... is the water pump fubar? ive seen others have had this issue, leaking around the back..but not many post a why or how to fix.. heres a pic from where its dripping from

i replaced the CLT and the other temp sensor, used teflon paste, and i examined them and the whole t-stat and t-stat hoses..i cant find a drip..

Your water pump is not necessarily going to leak coolant to the back unless it is running back toward the firewall. Have you discounted your heater hoses from the source of the leak?

Dry everything off, support the car up and run it while looking at everything. Track it down.

exactly what CODE4 said. when this happened to me, it was because my heater hose wasnt clamped down all the way. Tightened up, fixed the problem.

pic.. so there are 3 brown bolts ( not trying to be a bolt racist...lol 1 of the brown bolts is shown), i think holding the oil or water pump on (looking at the UDP, these bolts are to the left), and it seems the top of these 3 is leaking the collant...so wtf..

Those three bolts hold the lower alternator bracket to the block. The water pump is on the opposite side. You need to trace higher and find where the coolant is actually coming from.

I do not mean to be a dick, but there is not much we can offer you in this situation. You are the only one that is going to be able to find this leak and track it down. There are only a few places that coolant could be coming from on the back side. Check the water jacket plug, freeze plugs, heater hoses etc.

Did you install the motor? If so you know where the places to look for are man.

lol.. yea i built it (minus engine assy) ..all the hoses are fine, and clamped, and re-checked.. once i clean it, it takes a few mins before it starts to drip..i cant really trace higher right now, ill need to grab the jack from the shop...it looks like there may be small little pool of coolant coming from where block and head meet, but its on the plasting timing cover, not runing down the block..i guess it could be coming from the lower bolt on the t-stat and running down the plastic timing guard..i just cant see any coolant anywhere but that bolt..and i think the bolt is what holds the oil pump on, does coolant even run that low in the block?

get under the car and start searching. report back w/ results

will do.. im leaning / praying for t-stat, i peaked behind the cam gear cover and i can see coolant evidence.. the bottom bolt of my tstat my be the culprit..

It looks like your HG . Check the pasenger side above the alternator . If it is try to torck the head down bit more see if it stops leakin.

You torque them to spec and not a "bit more".

well, i opend the VC and just tried to give the head studs just a little more torque...lol JP..

it dawned on me last night, that i just put in a new CLT...and coincidentally, thats when the leak started... ripped off the PS pump so i could get a good look and a wrench on it..and figures, when i put it on i guess i didnt drive it far enuf in and the Teflon didnt help.. so i fixed it ..no more leak..
