Well on my way to work this morning It was raining pretty hard and all of sudden I see water on the road I braked slowly and went into the water I barely went in when the car stalled the water was about less than a foot I'm guessing!! I got the after market intake low to the ground. So they pushed me out of the water and when I get to my work nothing everything turns on except when I try starting the car sounds like the battery is dead so after work I jump the car and same thing the motor turn once but turned off I checked the oil and no water in the oil. I saw that the starter was smoking a little so tomorrow I'm going to try it again see if it dries up and fingers cross it starts any other suggestions you all might have for me that might be wrong with the car get back. 1995 Gs

search for the word 'hydrolock'

Pull your spark plugs out and see if there's any water in the cylinders if so do your best to suck/dry it out

Ummm.

Not exactly.

Pull the pan, change the oil, do a compression test.

Hydrolock normally kills engine btw.

what if no water went into the oil? what would cause it not to start it's like i turn the key to turn it on and it's like the battery is dead I jumped the car and I saw that the starter was smoking when I tried starting it.

It was in the morning while it was dark so I can't see if there is standing water on the road it's not like I said hey there's a huge puddle let me go splash it but anyways I got the car started work fine ran it no water in crank case starter shorted out I guess before i was in the water so thanks anyways for wiki and other suggestions

The water did go into your engine. Which in turn is most likely in your oil.

I picked up a car that had been hydrolocked. I had to rebuild the whole motor, he also had a low intake. I switched over to a short ram. I am sorry but a cold air intake is not work the risk.

My filter sits 3" from the ground. Same in my ACR.

I never have an issue, maybe because I DONT DRIVE THROUGH GIANT PUDDLES.

sometimes you can't avoid or see them though. I always had a bypass valve on my intake and I think it helped me a couple times when I got caught in almost flash flood situations.

I agree tim, I did not drive through puddles either like I said the previous owned did that. But as corey stated sometimes you cannot avoid it. I actually did run a cold air until the bracket broke (Cheap ebay CAI) but I also ran a bypass.
