Ok heres the deal. The block that came with my eclipse ended up being junk because it was a 95 block and a 96+ bedplate and it did not match whatsoever.

I know this has been around and I read and read in search but can't get a positive answer. The machine shop has what I believe is a 95 SOHC Neon block due to it having the PCV tubes on the block.

If they give me a good price on it I am going to buy it. My setup is JE pistons 8:8:1 and crower rods so my question is will this be alright due to the compression differences in the SOHC block?

I am going turbo of coarse so I dont think the lower compression will matter.

Just give me some input on if this is a good idea or not.

The block by itself does not affect the compression ratio.

Use the damn thing.

I prefer the 95 Neon block because of the ability to breathe the bottom end.

Edit: So they want $165 for that neon block and still want to charge me the $120 for the work they did on my block... So heres the question will any 95 bedplate work with that 95 block or does it have to match the block exactly?

I would go ahead and pay the 285 bucks for it but that's just me. You are gonna have to pay them for the work they did to your block anyways and by buying the neon block your bottom end will breathe. The guy who did my head cost me that much alone and he did a shitty job by giving it to me not completely clean. Cost him in the end when he had to replace the whole head.

Well these guys do good work... I am actually going to get a block a bit cheaper than what they want to sell me so I may just get a good block myself and have them work on it. I dont know yet.

Can't switch bedplates (unless you want the cost of an alignbore added in. You would breathe the block by adapting those holes to run to a catch can set-up. And, yeah, should be able to get a block a little cheaper than that.
