Hey, I noticed on Jegs.com that you can send your ECU to them and they will tune it for you and supposedly you can gain up to 32 hp with it for only 309.00. Here's the link. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=8948&prmenbr=76&lastcat= Have any of you guys ever done this and if so how are the results? Also What about octain boosters for your car. You pore this stuff in with your gas and you gain hp with it, does it work? Thanks guys

Short sweet and to the point. Both of these are a waste of money.

The only good that comes out of octane boosters is if your car requires higher than normal octane gas. If you have a turbo you can raise the octane level which makes the gas more resistant to detonation and you are able to turn the boost up more.

That JET ECU upgrade is pretty useless. If you ever want to do anything with your car besides add an intake and exhaust, you're screwed. They advance your timing, which is a no-no with nitrous and/or a turbo system.

I wouldn't want to mod our ECU... It's screwy enough as it is. :)

As for Octane boost-
Over the shelf ones are weak, but lubricate your engine well so they're pretty much safe but useless. "Techron" and "ProPower" are octane boosters which consist mostly of MTBE I believe...

I live in SoCal where "Premium" is now 91 octane. ($@#^ckers) I've messed with using Toluene - a paint thinner I bought from Sherwin Williams. It doesn't lubricate the engine well, and may deteriorate my fuel lines... but hey it's like 114 octane :) Xylene works too, it's 117 octane. MTBE is 118 octane.

All I can say is the car is somewhat more responsive and powerful in the midrange, and I get less detonation under boost. Definitely would use it to road race, but definitely not daily.

BTW- Use at your own risk, you stand a good chance of blowing yourself up, getting very sick, and/or killing the planet.
