So the car is a 95 automatic and when I put the car in drive and go down the road it don't want to shift into the next gear and the rpms just climb up but sometimes i'll shut the car off and go and it will be fine for maybe a few mins and then do the same thing. So do I have a bad torque converter or could bad valves cause this too? On a side note I had the trans rebuilt by a shop a few years back and I maybe drove the car 1 year on and off with the rebuilt trans.I just want to be sure before I do buy parts I don't need you know.

I'd start with a new input/output speed sensor. It fixed mine for awhile, but eventually it had to be rebuilt :( ..a second time, within 1 1/2 years of the first rebuild. Just don't be surprised when it starts going into limp mode one day. Best bet is start saving up for a 5 speed swap imo, alot cheaper than rebuilding the atx every year.

Wrong section, but, before you jump off the deep end, check your transmission fluid level. If its only a little off it can cause those sorts of symptoms. If that checks out I'd check the filter next before I spent any money.

Alright I will be a filter kit and install it see if that works.
Oh and the fluid atf+4 right? Is it hard to change the filter?

Yea I have and every page that I view someone tells someone else the same thing search or do a m/t swap and blah blah if I wanted to do a m/t swap I would just read another useless thread about a a/t and how no one could reply about wtf the o/p asked about. Just fyi evertime I do a search before I ask a question.

atf+4 is the right fluid to use, I prefer advance brand atf+4. Its not hard to change the atx filte plus fluid. Buy a haynes/chiltons manuel.

A shop will charge alot to do an ATX flush job, I recommend calling around for prices for a complete atx Flush and Fill. Go with the cheaper price and buy your own ATX fluid at least 9 quarts.

Reason, when a shop flushes your atx there's extra crap build up in the torqconvertor plus fluid from when your 2g was built.

the convertor holds two quarts I believe but djtrickee can correct me on this :P

In the Chiltons atx states the required fluid capacity which is 7 qts when doing the ATX filter fluid change but the convertor hold extra fluid.

my car was going in and out of limp mode when i bought it the other day and i assumed something was out on it but i just wiggled the plugs around on the tranny and made sure they were firmly in there and have not had a problem since... just a suggestion...

That's a good idea. I've replaced my input and output speed sensors and the car was still in limp mode. I did a tranny fluid flush and installed a new filter and even after that still in limp mode. I've had thoughts of playing with the wires but doubted it will do anything. Looks like I now have a reason to try, thanks!
