127736, Stock Headgasket on a 97

Is the stocker supposed to say 2.4 on it? It's in big writing around 1/2" tall.

I'm getting confused now (possibly worried) since pulling the head as the cross hatching in the cylinders looks almost new. The Odometer states 143K on the car, and the person I bought it from hasn't done anything to it (appeared bone stock), but she was the 3rd owner of the car. The pistons look like hell with carbon galore.

The 95-99 2.0 and 2.4 HG's were the same.

Part #5014131AC is the newest part number for the HG's.

Good to know its original. I didn't think that the cross-hatching on the cylinder walls would last that long! Still going to measure them so I can order the right pistons (when funds are available)... Might as well build her strong while she's already in pieces!

Anybody know how to remove the hardened carbon buildup on the head and valves without scratching the aluminum? I don't want to create hot spots during cleaning.

Nevermind on the last topic with the cleaning. There is a machine ship here in Decatur that will clean, check for cracks and mill it (assuming no cracks) for a decent price.

Hmmmm, moving on along!

Use a carbon scraper for removing old carbon.

When they're exposed like that I like to use orange 409 cleaner. fill the cylinders and leave it overnight. Come back in the morning and the carbon should be floating on top
