127593, Some 2.4 Hotness. Posted by CODE4, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Serious progress on the 2.4 today. Cam gears and VC were placed on just for looks. I torqued/loosened the ARP head stud nuts five times to get them settled in (25-65-85 lbs). OEM MLS HG received a Mopar gasket spray treatment prior to install. PT lifters and 2.7L followers were soaked over night in oil prior to install. Crower 3s are sexy.
In hindsight, I should have chased all the threads in the cylinder head before having the work done to it. Since it came from a donor motor that with an unknown history a couple of the valve cover mounting holes are slightly monkeyed up but I think they will work. Worst case scenario is I drill them out and tap them for M8 hardware.
All of the cam cap mounting holes were filthy and had build up from what I can only guess was the machine shop. Prior to chasing I could not get the ARP cam studs half way down. While the chasers were out I cleaned out the coil pack mounting points and the two mounting holes on the driver's side.
I would have kept going if I were in a garage but daylight was waning and I wrapped her back up for tomorrow.

Add the G to jpg. They are huge pictures hence the intentional broken link.

You're gonna let me drive it, right? Even just around the block?
Serious fucking hardware, there, Sarge. Looks like a real monster in the making.
Always that little voice in the back of the head that thinks, "This is way too fucking sweet to install in a dirty engine bay," right? :P

It does look gorgeous Brian, I will feel a little bad about installing it an engine bay without giving it the AZDave treatment first. However this build has been months in the making and I am itching to have it completed. Hopefully I will be able to take her back to AZ one last time after break in (before moving to FL) for you to feel what an FX600 twin disc feels like ;)

Reminds me of a similar, less extensive/powerful build I did not too long ago. Looks amazing.

I really enjoy looking at your updates. Just one question..Are those OEM valve cover bolts?
|
127613, RE: Some 2.4 Hotness. Posted by CODE4, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
They are Stainless Cap screw bolts and SS washer I got from McMaster. I have seen some other members here do it to clean up the engine bay a bit.
OEM VC bolts are M6 with a shoulder that has a 10 mm diameter to fit snugly inside the VC grommets. I did not find any that had the right dimensions as the stock ones however. The ones you see in those pictures are plain M6 bolts.
