you have an oil temp gauge? or your coolant temp starts to go up?

if you have oil in the motor and as the motor heats up pressure drops to nothing you prolly have a failing pump...

i would get an oil pressure tester and get a better more accurate reading... its possible you have a failing sender...

i have an oil temp and oil pressure gauge from auto meter, the car is fine from a cold start and when it heats up it looses pressure, i am going to get under it and repleace the sending unit, is there any way ti tell if it is the pump? any other reasons that this could be happening

i just wanted to make sure you were referencing an autometer or stock sender because I am not familiar with your set up.

being that you are loosing pressure as the car heats up which is normal, how low to 0 is it going. i believe stock pump at idle should be in the mid to low teens... haynes says 4psi at curb idle... average or rule of thumb is 10psi per 1k rpm... does oil pressure raise with RPM or does it just drop and stay down..

if thats the case you might have a failing pump... i would still rec grabbing an oil pressure gauge, i know sears sells a KD brand kit that screws on to your oil filter housing in replace of the oil filter for roughly 40 bucks for the kit... if that gauge reads normal replace the autometer sender...

if it drops to 0 too, you have a bad pump and you will want to replace it before you spin a bearing or blow your motor...

Does this only happen at idle? If so then what does the pressure go up to when you rev it? I DO suspect sender (because of them being a common problem) but MAY be something else.......

thought i posted this last night but i guess not.
on a cold start up i idle around 60psi, i can see anywhere from 60-90+ psi depending on how high of a rpm i go while driving cold. When fully warmed up i idle 20-25psi and around 60psi while normal driving. I have a autometer mech. oil pressure gauge.

the car losses all psi at idle but when i rev it up it will go up to a normal amount when i am not under load

Sounds to me like you need to check the bearings for excessive play. Same happens tome and it was a spun rod bearing/bad oil pump.
