127198, DIY Shift Light?

Has anyone ever made their own or know of a company/person that makes one? Just looking to have an adjustable one that is hooked up to a LED or something. Thanks guys.

They're not very difficult to make, you'll just need an LM2917, a comparator, a potentiometer and the LED. I'll throw together a schematic for you later tonight.

I emailed him two weeks ago and he said that the shiftlights were in stock.

Neon guys use this one.

I thought it would be nice for when I'm at the track, something I can turn off and on with a tiny switch or something. :P

Here you go; this should do it:

All of the parts should be available from RadioShack, except the LM2917. If you would rather not order any parts, there's another way to do this that's just as easy and it only uses parts available from RadioShack. I'll try to test the circuit and draw a schematic for that one next week.

Here's a simple circuit that can be built with just a few parts from RadioShack. U1 is a 555 timer and U2 is an LM358 dual op-amp. Simply adjust RV1 to set the RPM threshold:

You could easily replace R5 and D1 with a 1k ohm resistor and a 2N2222 NPN transistor to switch larger loads -- such as the CEL or an LED array.
