126864, srt4 internals in a 420a eclipse block

Ive been hearing from some people that you can swap the crank, rods and pistons from a srt4 block to a 420a block and was wondering if anyone else heard this.any information is helpfull, of course the pistons need to be turned since the intake and exhaust are reversed between the two. thanks and hopefully its true. Easier than doin a swap

If you were going to use the internals, why not use the block instead. It has been said on the neon forums that you can use the srt4 block and our heads because our heads flow better.

Here's the link on tuners of them debating it

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420a-turbo-conversion/278187-420a-head-srt4-block.html

Here's the link to the neon forum of them talking about it.

http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f258/red-sled-update-432567/

On the third page is where is specifically says he is running a 420a head on the SRT4 block. Course you can also see he is running a 80mm throttle body along with a custom made intake manifold.

You can use SRT-4 internals on the 2.4 swap. I'm learning all about that right about now.

I was looking at the 2.4 swap and was wondering if since the 2.4 was a basically a bored/stroked 420a the tranny bolt up was the same, i only ask because i did major work on an 06 stratus sxt and it was the same as my 420a aside from some minor differences like the crank position sensor everyone mentions. so im wondering if the earlier versions like 99-02 2.4l bolt up to the tranny of a 99 420a, if anyone has a link it would be helpful. I try to find the info I need before posting/I'm still looking up info now.... Thanks for all the help so far I'v learned alot already, keep up the good work

Ok well based on what I know You cannot use the SRT internals in a 2.0 Block. Not sure about the bore as its been some time since I read up, but I'm pretty sure the stroke is far to long for the 2.0 block. Hence, why you can use SRT equipment in a 2.4 swap because they match up. As for the SRT4 block working I've heard that it has been done and is a real PITA and not worth it, It may work for the neons but that is due to the positioning of the crank sensor "The crank signal is picked up off the back of the crank (NGC) rather than the front. The deck is taller because of the increased stroke. Also a bit wider to allow for the rotating assembly."(Thank You CODE4). If I am wrong on any of this information if someone would correct me for the sake of the OP and me getting some more knowledge it would be appreciated. Hope this helped

awesome Thanks for the info,I'll check the links provided and read up on it.I'll also read into the whole block swap. Thanks again

It may have worked for the Neons but, they have a completely different chassis. The SRT block not working has nothing to do with the Neon Chassis. The crank signal is picked up off the back of the crank (NGC) rather than the front. The deck is taller because of the increased stroke. Also a bit wider to allow for the rotating assembly.

they don't use the 420a because it flows better
they just use it so the turbo will be between the engine and the radiator which give way more space for a custom built with a huge turbo instead of the cramped space available between the engine and the firewall on the neons when you use the stock neon/srt-4 heads

again DCR "Darrell Cox Racing" using a 420a head because of the available space in front of the engine to put his monster turbo setup

it may flow better but I still have my doubts even if the valves are a little bit smaller on the second generation heads the castings are better and smoother

the whole point stay the same more space available = bigger turbo

Well Ya'll have giving alot of info and I have found some info searching more. The easiest thing I've come across is the 99 stratus 2.4 with srt internals and a 420a (eclipse) head. Minor modifaction on one motor mount and from what I'm reading seems way easier than the 4g63 swap I helped my Brother do in his 95 GS. Any other info Yall have is awesome...Thanks again

i forggot to add you have to switch 2 coil wires(plug wires)and injector wires.Other than that its prob the easiest swap Ive read about. Ill know more later still digging and reseaching but it has been done

this one was whats possible with work

This was just part of the info I've gathered so far.. but some of you were part of the one link lol.
and yes DCR is running a 420a head on his A855 block (head from an Avenger I believe). I read alot on the red sled and it was awesome.. I'll keep reading more on the project for my RS. In the meantime my 90 awd tsi needs some love ( around 300HP 20psi) Please give any Info yall can on the 2.4 swap if you wish , and thanks again

Are you assuming this swap has not been done? There are many here that have completed the 2.4L EDZ swap successfully.

The plug wires are not switched. The wires feeding the two coil banks are swapped.

Thanks for the correction, I know its been done , just reading up more on it thanks again
