126828, Adding an ECU Harness..
Posted by 740 turbo brick, Jul-27-09 11:37 AM
My 95 keeps eating up ECUs left and right. Also, Ive heard around that 95 is the worst of all the 2gnt ECUs, and that they got somewhat better each year. I bought that $300 RS, which was a 98. I was wondering how plausible it would be to cut the ECU harness out say 8-12 inches from the connector, and connect it to my existing ECU wires. This way, I can test to see how my car would handle a 98 ECU, while still having the 95 connector in case I want to go back to it, or for emissions or whatever. Only one ECU would be connected at a time, the other would just be an empty harness.

You will need to look at the pinouts for both.

There would definitely be a few wires with no place, or for which the 95 ECU doesnt control.

It could work, just take alot of time and careful research.

I probably would not invest the time, and swap the whole harness to 98. As long as there are no codes, I dont think the emissions place will care.

IIRC some of the sensors don't read the same either. Didn't someone post a while back that 97+ cam sensors didn't work with the 95 ECU or something like that?

This could have been years ago for all I know.

I think its only the connector.

I know that the connectors are different, maybe that's all that's the issue. I honestly can't remember.

Swap the entire harness and sensors.
