Spent five hours at the hobby shop today doing an install/removal. Cruise control was removed completely, throttle cable replaced with new OEM non cruise control cable. I am amazed at the space created in the absence of the assembly. Alternator belt was much easier to service.

New Goodyear Gatorbacks were installed. Performed this while everything was off.

From underneath (car on lift) I removed the five bolts securing the upper to lower sections. Lowered the vehicle and removed the upper section. Raised vehicle and removed the vacuum box & lower bolts for the lower manifold section. With everything off I began transferring the sensors over to the Fierro port & polished OEM IM. Broke two T20 bits attempting to remove the IAC and TPS. This was working them back and forth mind you, I was not applying sudden force. Only one bolt head though. The TPS was reused, however the IAC was saved. Since I wanted to utilize just a throttle stop for idle control I RTVed three pennies into the IAC port on the MP TB. Using a IAC from a Stratus 2.4 I compressed the plunger completely and ground approximately 1.5mm of material off the pintle so it would seat completely.

At this point I should have test fitted the SS bolts that I purchased with the Symtech PTFE spacer for clearance. I found out the two inner bolts will bottom out against the runners due to length. I had to cut approximately 1/4" off two bolts and run a die to clean the threads. I did not use two gaskets to sandwich the PTFE spacer - only Mopar Gasket spray to prep the surfaces and gasket. I also sprayed the throttle body gasket for good measure.

With everything buttoned up I fired her up and immediately had to adjust the throttle stop to keep her going. I played with the throttle stop a bit to find a 1K idle. On the initial drive I immediately noticed it to be more raucous. The difference in response made me laugh. After a short drive I popped the hood and touched the upper IM - not bad!

The MegaView confirmed lower IAT readings. With so much more airflow I was topping out my EGO correction frequently and will need to increase fuel. The butt dyno made me smile.

good god i cannot agree with you more. i DO NOT miss mine.

as far as the IAC and TPS bolts, the t20's, worst design ever. stripped many, i just use an 8mm or whatever small size it is, for the IAC. the TPS t20's, well, if they strip, which i've done, VERY hard to remove. that blue threadlocker the factory puts on it serves no purpose other than to frustrate 2gnt'ers. Glad to see you got ur shit cooler dave. In your opinion, was it worth your money, time & effort?

Fuck yeah. That Fierro IM has been sitting around for over 4 years too - I kick myself sometimes for just stockpiling parts.

It was well worth the time and money. Without a lift however, it would have been a great pain in the ass to swap the intake manifold.

First off, good luck with those Goodyear Gatorback belts, every time i try those, they shred into pieces within a week. One time it shredded the same day i bought it. Anyway, I'm curious to see some pics of the Fierro IM.

Outwardly the IM looks no different. The inside has been cleaned up, injector humps shaved, bored to 60mm, runners ported.

As for Gatorbacks what are you doing wrong? The set I just took off were on for about 90K miles. Everyone I know running them has had awesome results.

awesome, intake swap. my younger had a spare 87 fierro gt motor in his storage. We where curious if it fit on my 420a, I didnt bother so he donate it to ASE class.

Could you post the part number for both the Oem non cruise control cable and Mopar gasket spray.

I never use the cruise anyway, plus I have extra spare time during the day.

Post up a pic if you have time, I would like to see how it looks.

Was there a big difference in throttle between the stocker and the fierro, or are they about the same size.

Does removing the IAC cause any codes? Curious, since that also plays into the code recieved by the EGR if it would help to eliminate that code as well...

it would throw a code. But I have not been OBD II compliant for many years.

It sucks to put so much work into a car and have someone that doesn't really know about the process see that light. It just looks 'bad', you know? They immediately think something is wrong, or you didn't do something right.
