Thanks for posting the vid for me, it is my car a 98 GS (auto). It recently started to make this noise within the last.... 3 weeks? The only time it makes that noise is in park/neutral and ONLY past 3k RPM. If I am driving around it never makes the noise. It sounds to me like it is deff. coming from the engine bay. My first guess is exhaust rattle. But it is to hard for me to pin point by myself. I will take more video in the morning so you can actually see everything. And when I can find somebody to help me I will put it up on stands and have somebody help me look for it. If any of you have any clue or have ever heard this sound before please give me any info you can. This is my DD and I need to catch this problem before it possibly turns into something bigger.... Also the car has ebay header, and ebay exhaust on it. It has been on for over a year now with no issues...

sounds like you have a hole in your exhaust somewhere. Usually they sound worse when reving like that. Possibly something has corroded through and is rattling somewhere also. I would run your hand along the seams of your piping. They can hide, and are not always obvious.

I drove the car up to KC last weekend and took it to my father's shop. We put it up on the rack to check over the exhaust. The sound is not coming from the exhaust at all. But while I was under the car I did find the source of my oil leak, the oil pressure sensor.

Anyways we lowered the car and checked the timing belt and it does seem a tiny bit stretched. So I will be replacing that soon I hope. But I don't think that has anything to do with the noise I'm getting in that video. So my father busted out his stethoscope and listened to the valve cover as I revved the engine up to make the noise. He seems to think the sound is coming from my head, possibly my valves? So I'm still kind of in the dark on this whole thing.

So I guess all I can really do besides just tearing into it is drive it like I have been, and wait for the car to take a crap on me. That way I have no choice but to get it fixed.

I think it is time to find a new DD and park this car so I can pull the engine and ATX.

Why would a hole in the exhaust only make noise passed 3k rpm?

I just had an issue with a Z28 that came into the shop 2 weeks ago. Customer said the engine had a noise in it. Pulled it in, could not duplicate it, until I put in Park or N and rev'd it up to about 3500RPM. Got the okay from the customer to tear into it, dropped the motor down and out, pulled the pan, and found a faulty rod bearing on #3. Sounded exactly like that. I thought it was something else because it did not sound like a rod knock, however, that was the problem. Customer ended up getting a bone yard motor that I put in.

My buddy just had the exact same noise in his Hyundai Elantra. Sounded exactly the same. A week or two later the motor seized up. Turned out to be a blown rod bearing. I think Mike is on to something..

Ohh great.... And I had planned to drive this car to Jacksonville, FL at the end of the month... Maybe I better put that off now.
