125990, Anybody got any major experience with smog?
Posted by fullmoon, Jun-07-09 08:51 AM
Here we go again!!! I got these mods...Pulstar Plugs, Name Unkown Super wires, AEM shorty intake, Pacesetter header, Magnaflow free-flow cat, Magnaflow Muffler and well an Oil change too! :)

I live in So. Cal and I have a 99 auto non turbo of course! I tried to pass the smog and got a high NOx reading all else is normal last time I had a smog test problem with high levels of Hc before I had the free-flow cat.

Max allowed by the state 459 I was up to 684.

My questions are should I wrap my header and leave all else alone?

(AND NOT WORRIED ABOUT CRACKING MAY RID MYSELF OF THIS NIGHMARE ON FOUR TIRES NEXT YEAR!!!)

Should I just reinstall a stock cat?

Should I go back to stock plugs?

Should it by a combo of which of the above or any single thing?

I was told it may be my EGR but the smog man said nope not it it's something else and so I'm thinking it's my mods.

I only drive it a few days every 2-3 months if I'm lucky and just may hafta register this bitch in Nevada till I get my cash saved up for my next California Speed Racer Project :)

Or I may just keep it and ship it to Texas because I just got Texas license and kin in Texas too so I may need some wheels as I spend more time there also as I understand it Texas is a little more lax in smog rules being they only look at the tailpipe test :)

I wish could catch the dealer who sold me this car dealer in a night club parking lot one night :owned

One last question? Who built this motor Chrysler or Mitsu? Me and the really nice smog man almost got into an argument behind this, I told 'em Chrysler he kept saying Mitsu built it.

He checked this car at least 5-6 times trying to pass it!

Thanks guys sorry if I seem pissed but I had other things to do like go to the dentist and did not get them done!

It's the cat.. throw a stock cat back on, pass your emissions test (fuck California / liberal law makers in general), put the high-flow one (probably just a test pipe anyway) back on and ride out.

God willing I'm gonna have a new ride soon the SUV I got for moms got totaled and I been wanting to shove her into a gas sipper with no payments and here's my chance! :) (And yea she's all right just got hit by a drunk from behind while waiting at a red light and it screwed up her back or neck a bit plus the body possibly the frame along with the tranny)

Got my eye on a new Cobalt or a 350Z or maybe and I mean maybe a new eclipse I'm kinda leary of Mitsu after all I've been through.

In the mean time I'm gonna keep fooling around with this thing since I got more time on my hands than brains! :)

GM=fail
350z doesn't fit in the gas sipper category, but it does fit into the fun to drive category

Nooo!!! She gets a econo box and I get the fun car! Even with all her years as a School Bus Driver there's nooo way I'd replace her SUV with a sports car.
But as far as the smog test what mods can I do and still pass smog?
I just spoke to a guy that told me e85 would help me pass so I'm think that a few mods and a tank full of that stuff should be a winner!

make sure you've got paperwork for EVERYTHING since you're in California. check with the smog refs on what you can do and can't do.

i moved from Cali because I didnt want to play by their rules anymore, practically impossible to pass with a 2.4L turbo
