Hey folks I'm having an issue with my 95 RS-T overheating. The car continues to overheat and neither fan is turning on.

Background story:

Car has been sitting for roughly 4-5 months while I was away for school. As soon as I got home I started the car up and took off to emissions to get my new tabs. Unfortunately I didn't make it that far. Was cruising down the road everything running smoothly. I took a glance at my temperature gauge after about 5-10 minutes and saw it was maxed out. Threw the heaters on full blast and pulled into the nearest parking lot I could get to. Once I popped the hood I saw the reservoir tank was having a seizure and spilling coolant everywhere. Panic set over at this point and I'm not entirely sure if the driver side fan was on or not, the passenger I remember wasn't on. I let the car sit for an hour, filled it up with some water and drove it home with heaters blowing full force. No issues on the drive home, car stayed at operating temperatures.

The next day I took it out again this time with the heaters blowing full force from the start. No problems car was staying within operating temperatures. I gradually slowed down the heaters with no problems, even on the lowest setting. Within 2 minutes of turning the heaters off completely the temperature again went all the way to the hot side. Stopped to pop the hood again to see the reservoir seizing and this time I was certain neither fan was on.

So that's the story. My luck my alternator is also out so testing might be difficult until I get a replacement. I do have other batteries I can use for checking connections. Fan motors, coolant sensors, thermostat, wiring, relays, where should I start? I was reading my Haynes and it said to use fused jumper wires to test relays and a few other items. Could someone explain what fused jumper wires are?

Not sure if this matters but the passenger fan is a slim and I do not have an A/C condenser installed. (Running a short belt)

bust out that ohm/volt meter and start-a-probe'n :)

Buy a relay from a autoparts store, they are like 5 dollars. Use that test.

That is what I have always done. Check all your fan connection, spray them with electrical cleaner. I think CRC makes some good stuff, also available at a parts store.

Also, get the bubbles out of your system. My my method is WHEN THE CAR IS COMPLETELY COLD to take the rad cap off and start it, then add fluid at 1500rpms. The coolant circulates, and the bubbles will come out because it has an escape.

Before you spend the money, swap the low and hi speed fan relays under the hood. See if the fans kick on.

Alright got some testing done today.

Boiled the thermostat, it opened.

Checked all the relays in the fuse box under the hood. Everyone was good.

Used fused jumper wires and 12v battery on the radiator fan, started spinning right away.

CTS was replaced shortly before I left for school.

Can you guys think of anything else I can check?

Hello I just had the same problem with my eclipse. It turned out to be the temp sensor for the ECU went bad. I even notice after replaceing the sensor that the car was running better. Has something to do with the fuel map I think. So I would just replace the temp sensor with the two wire plug and see if that wolud work. Hope this helps.

like Greenville said, it looks like you need to buts out the meter and start probin for shorts in the wire.
