like i said i have spark im getting fuel but it wont start. the motor was just put in and im almost sure the timings right cause both holes in the cams face up and the marks on the cam gears line up. could anyone tell me what would be causing this and i thought i may have forgotten to put the magnet on the cam but i checked today and it is on there

Have you checked all the connections on the sensors? How are you sure you have fuel and spark?

however, if you have spark, meaning, remove a spark plug wire, slide in screw driver, rest screw driver on valve cover and crank, and can actually see the spark arcing to the valve cover then yes you have spark.

for fuel you are looking for 2 things, one, do you have base fuel pressure. meaning do you have 50 psi of fuel pressure at the rail.

if you do then thats not a prob.

the other fuel thing you need to attend to, is pulse width, basically while the car is cranking, are the injectors firing. they sell tools known as noid lights that you can plug into the harness, so you can see a flash of light insted of having to remove the injector and actually watch the fuel fly across the room.

NEXT, go to the wiki on HOW TO SET TIMING BELT TIMING. when the crank is set to TDC do the cam gears in the pictures look to be in the same place as your cam gears. you might have to set the crank around twice to get those lines to match up.

LASTLY, what condition are your plugs in? you said new however they were wet and smelt like fuel. IF and when i double check all of the above, i would remove the spark plugs, wire brush and blow them off. then i would leaving the fuel pump relay and coil disconnected, crank the motor over a solid 10-15 times. then re-install the plugs, wires, and plug the coil and fuel pump relay back in.

at this point if all the above is done and is correct the car should start, but start ROUGH, and might take a lil coaxing of the throttle plate to idle. and it will prolly idle rough and irratic for a while also, due to cylinder wash, lots of smoke out the tail pipe too is to be expected. after a while if idling and throttle goosing the car will settle down for ya.

There is your problem or you are misleading us. The holes on the cams should be one up and one down. So you timing on one cam is probably 180 degrees out. You want to be SURE that you timing is right not almost. Double check that you let us know what you get.

i know my timing is right the exhaust cam gear dowl points up and the intake cam geear one points down so there for both of my holes in the cams point straight up at top dead center thats right is it cause in the pics for proper timing thats what it says. but thanks for the help any way i know why my car wont run i have bent valves
