I'm trying to get this car to over 300,000 miles as it is a commuter, but I might not be able to if I can't fix this one:

95 Eagle Talon ESi manual trans hard starting 248,000 miles

The car is very hard to start and feels like it stumbles on 2 or 3 cylinders until it "catches" and then revs up to 2000rpm and tries to idle but then usually dies, unless the computer bumps it back up in RPMs in time. After restarting and babying it while warming up it will idle ok, but when you press the accelerator pedal past say 40% travel, it bogs and wants to stall. I can modulate the pedal and get it to rev up to 4-5000 rpm but it's a challenge to do so. Oxygen sensors are new and so are the TPS and IAC valve. Any ideas? Coil pack resistance checked out fine as well btw.

Thanks

I just had a very similar problem. It turned out to be the coil even thogh it bench tested fine. Go figure. Anyway, good luck!

I would check the coil.

BTW, drive more, my 98 has 257k on it ;)

A bad Cam Sensor can cause extremely hard starts as well. Check your sensors, and all ignition related components.

Before you replace anything, do a comp check. Definitely do a check cold then warm. Yeah, with those symptoms, it could easily be..........

another thing to check is if you have an air bubble in the coolant. pop your radiator cap up by the head when the engine is cold and look to see if there's any coolant.

If it's low or empty looking then your Coolant Temp Sensor is sending a false reading to the ECU and causing the stumbling until the waterpump pushes enough coolant up to cover the sensor.
