125235, ecu problem Posted by 96eclipsedsm, Apr-17-09 09:36 PM
I have a 96 eclipse gs mtx non turbo and I think the ecu went bad in it how do you tell if it's the ecu?

Try a known good ECU. If it works then your ECU is bad.
What problems are you having?

well I was driving down the street the car was running great then it just died and I"m getting no fuel or spark, and when I try plugging my scanner in it won't connect it just says link error. I've checked all the wiring there's nothing wrong with any of it so I con't know where to start.

I have no idea if this will help, but when my ecu died I noticed that the check engine light would not light at all. The few seconds at start-up, the light is supposed to light and then go out. Mine didn't. Do you have that?

I don't think that it's coming on so that means bad ecu then

It could mean bad ecu. Trying another ecu would be the next step.

finding one around where I live is the problem, the only cars around me for parts are a 95 gs which I got the motor out of and a 98 gs which from what what I know only 96-97 will work

yeah that may be my only option it sucks though cause I could have got one where I live for 25 if it worked

From your other thread;

You got two threads going on basically the same topic. The answer is "find the short".

I've checked the wiring and there's not shorts anywhere I heard about this relay called the mfi relay that's supposed to power the computer is this true?
|
125272, RE: ecu problem Posted by Star Turbo Talon, Apr-19-09 02:35 PM
no.....the ECU sends a ground to power the relay up so that the relay may send 12v to the coil and other accrys.
You need to find out why the IGN fuse is blowing. Since you wont listen to that, open the harness up and trace the 12v + wire that goes to the ecu back to its source. Find out why 12v isnt getting to the ECU. DO not buy another ECU....it wont help you.

Amazing how a little work saved you from buying a ECU. Good Job.
