124866, ValveTrain Question!
Posted by eclipserstturbo, Mar-30-09 05:00 PM
Whats up guys. Well, I decided to start on my parts search at my local junk yard today to find the pt lifters and the 2.7L rockers. I actually went to all three junk yards in my area and found 0 pt cruisers and 0 2.7L chryslers. my question is A- are the lifters found in any other 2.4L chrysler, B- does anyone have a list of cars that have the 2.7L engine in it, and C- would the lifters and rockers out of a 2.4L chrysler concorde, i think, work in our 2.0 heads?

well see... the thing about that is that i can get it for free at the junkyard, which is a little extra incentive for me to get it there. definately didnt pay a dime today and i came out there with lifters and rockers out of a 2.4L chrysler, and a complete set of primo cam caps and end caps w/ all of the bolts. i just cant seem to find a chrysler with the 2.7L in it anywhere. i was just wondering if there was a different type of car that would have the chrysler motor in it so i can snag it out of that. but thanks anywhay. o, do you know if the 2.4L DOHC in a concorde or sebring (didnt pay attention to what it was) would be sort of an upgrade for our cars, of if its the same motor in the pt cruisers? im googling it now and i havent found anything yet.

...that are machined to a specific head and shouldn't be swapped to another. Good find?

so... ur saying that the caps are worn down to the cams that they came off of and shouldnt be used on new ones. and im guessing that im going to have to get new ones from the dealership. can i get them machined to match the new cams im going to be putting in? the head i have didnt have them on there when i got it, so i figured that since they came out of an identicle motor that they'd work. def didnt think about that tho, thanks.

Pretty much you are taking a pretty big risk by utiliting cam caps from any other head, whether the same year, the same motor, the same car etc.
They are line-bored from the factory and that makes all cam caps head specific. Never heard a horror story but I never took the chance nor has anyone I know. If you have a head with no cam caps = trash.

well i guess ill see how much i can get for it at a scrap metal place. i have another motor with a head that slipped timing that i still have to take apart and see what the damage is, so ill check that out tomorrow. so, if i decide to go with upgraded cams, i can still use the same cam caps i took off right?
