124782, Unusual Conditions Posted by Nisshoku81, Mar-25-09 05:11 PM
My car has been running very strange lately. Every now and then when I get stop at a light holding clutch, the car seems to want to die. The RPM will go as low as 200 before it corrects itself. I thought it could have been the IAC, or MAP sensor so I pulled them out and cleaned them very well. I also replaced my wires with MSD wires, spark plugs, I even changed out the coil pack and I'm still having the problem but not as much. When i'm drving rougly 80 on the highway, I can feel the car miss every once and awhile. The car was missing like hell when I was getting my State Referee Sound test done. Luckly it passed with Greddy EVO 2 Exhaust, Greedy Headers, and an AEM Cold Air Intake all CARBED. My last resort is the crank sensor. Although the one I'm using i'm pretty sure is shot but it's not throwing any codes. Any ideas?

No check engine light and no codes which is why I'm pretty confused right now.

fuel pressure ok?
|
124790, RE: Unusual Conditions Posted by Nisshoku81, Mar-25-09 08:05 PM
Yes fuel pressure is ok as well. About 3 months ago, I purchased a CPS from Autozone which seemed to work ok but it kept giving me random misfire codes but the car wasn't actually misfiring at all. So I took the CPS out, took it back to autozone telling them it was defective. I did this process two times and was still receiving this code. Mind you, I was not receiving this code before I installed this unit. So after contacting a supervisor, they returned my money and before buying a new CPS from Mitsu, I went to the junk yard and pulled one off my exact car and it's been working ever since. Just recently I've been actually feeling and hearing the misfiring and it's not good at all. I'm wondering if that CPS is going but isn't giving me a code. Is that possible?
Things I replaced.
Camshaft Sensor Coil (MSD) Ignition Wires (MSD) Spark Plugs Throttle Position Sensor (Had to clean the IAC so might as well replace this since I needed to anyways)
Things I cleaned
Throttle Body IAC (Was Filthy) MAP Sensor (Was Filthy)

check your timing. See how far its off

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to do that. Never hard to mess with anything regarding the timing belt. Would you mind telling me how?

I take it you had someone else do the mechanical tensioner conversion then?
Check your cam gears at TDC and verify that the timing marks on the sprockets align properly.

You are correct sir. The car was already in the shop before I started doing my own work. I will be doing it next time though no doubt. I'll give that a shot once I get out of work. Hopefully that's not the problem.

I checked my timing and it is spot on.

I've had the wanting to stall condition before. Once in a while it would die but most of the time, the rpms would go real low then chug on back up. I don't think the problem was ever REALLY solved, but I noticed it happen much less often when I boosted the car. (I also changed the fuel filter at that time) It's a cheap shot at fixing it and chances are it's never been done

I see. I changed my fuel filter less than a year ago so I'm hoping that's not the issue. The problem doesn't seem to be as bad as before. I'm really leaning toward the CPS. I think it may be going bad but not throwing a code.

What do you mean? What looks off to you? Maybe I'm not looking at it correctly but from looking at it, not the picture, it looks just fine.
