I'm trying to sell a 96 420a out of a Talon, the person interested has a 99 Eclipse. For the sake of my sanity and his, I told him that all the 420a's out the 2g cars were all interchangable however he was told otherwise, that the head was "diferent" and or "backwards". He was told by one of his guys that 99 was the only year they implimented that change. Anybody swapped a pre 99 motor into their 99 2gnt? Any information would be greatly appeciated! And I did try a quick search but found no info leading me to believe otherwise.

You are thinking of a Neon. The engine is the same. Its different on a Neon.

Thats completely what I thought and agree, the 420as in Neon platforms have the exhaust manifold in the back. If anyone could confirm with stating they stuffed a 95-98 420a DSM engine in a 99, man that would seal the deal for me.

It will work. Sensors/harness is a little different.

BTW: Bottom end is the same on Neons as ours. SOHC Neon bottom end is slightly lower compression.

Its the head that is different. Its not really that different... Just the cams are reversed and bolt holes for the intake/exhaust are obviously different.

i've put a 97 engine into a 95...and i have a 96 ecu...muwhahahaha....not to mention i buit my current engine with parts from both engines...including using the 95 head on the 97 block. Absolutely no difference in the engine. Maybe some sensor clips or ecu wires. That would be the only thing.

Well its not the Neon engine at question, but he was told that a Sebring/other Chrysler engines would only work. It's whether or not a 96 420a motor out of a Talon will bolt right into a 99 420a Eclipse car.

I just talked to the guy again and he said he'd have to use a 99 head to make it work. Says the exhaust manifold and intake manifold is different, so I'm assuming he's thinking the ports are different. Any insight?

All 2GNT engines from '95 to '99 are mechanically the same. Your guy is mistaken, an idiot, or both.

Yeah, the guys retarded. Tell him its the same motor from 95-99 for Eclipses/Talons, and that his buddies are smoking mercury.

And if he doesnt buy it, send me a PM on what you want for that motor...

mechanically the 95-99 engines are the same. some early production blocks have an extra oil port on the back that are blocked from the factory but that means nothing. use the sensors from the engine that came in the car and everything will be fine.
