What the hell. I should've known something like this would've happened.

Sunday - I finally get around to installing my 2.5" testpipe and 2.5" n1 catback (a whole lot of swearing and shaking from the cold wind). I ended up having to replace my downstream o2 sensor because it broke off while removing it from the original exhaust. That sucked (but somewhat expected...right?). She fired right up...no codes..nothing. Then after driving it <100 miles- I get a CEL this morning. CEL 32 is what i got. How does this happen? Anything I should consider first before automatically replacing stuff.

I don't know if it matters or not...the o2 was a universal.

Sounds like it's your EGR.

I did reset the computer today. I will know more tomorrow. I'm sure it won't 'fix' the problem...after all the car does have 154k on it. Some things are due.

Besides the EGR..could the code be caused by anything else?

I would recommend only using OEM o2 sensors. Especially stay away from anything Bosch. I threw many CEL's when I used a Bosch sensor.

Yeah, get one made for your car too, Not the universal one.

Interesting how Bosch sensors are recommended for this application...
Seeing as how the vast majority of us, myself included, use them on our vehicles without any issues, I'm assuming your case was either an isolated incident or user error.

To the OP, sorry to jack your thread.

Its probably from the test pipe. Not having a cat sprouted at least 3 codes for me. Installed a new cat and they all went away.

So far today I didn't get a CEL. The exhaust does seem to be on the rich side though.

I thought the bosch sensors actually weren't that bad??

Do you say its rich cause you have an AFR gauge reading rich or because you see smoke out your tail pipe? Seeing a very small bit of "smoke" will be a small side effect of a test pipe almost always. Cat's remove a good bit of that "soot" from the exhaust stream. Same for stock mufflers. Be sure to clean your rear bumper regularly or you'll end up with a "poop" stain...lol. A good layer of wax can save it too...

As far as a cat throwing a code, i've had my test pipe on for almost 2 years now and never a code. I loved the extra powa it gave in the mid range. My car has nearly 214000 miles on it. The engine is brand new and it still "smokes" a bit. But never any CELs...

2gnts are picky on when they throw cat efficiency codes. Mine would go off about once every week. Not only did my car feel slower with a test pipe, it sounded like shit. Car sounding good > 3HP.

I've had the cat efficiency code go off just from running fuel from the ultra cheapo stations. After running a tank of respectable fuel it usually shut off.

I don't have anything to monitor whether or not I'm running rich/lean. The car smells like its running rich (almost like a leaky exhaust? I don't know if it's an injector issue or some other scenario. It just started <2 weeks ago.

As for the CEL 32...came back on. I'm just going to replace the selonoid/tube. Now the question is:is it worth going for a new one or would a used one be fine?
