124259, Low, sputtering idle, No power under load.

Ok, I finsihed my rebuild, yay. I drove the car for about a week, until a heater hose ruptured. The car got hot, but didn't overheat. So, I fixed the line. When I started the car, it struggled at first then fired up. Idle is rough, the whole car shakes pretty bad as a result. She nearly dies when coming to a stop, and has no power under load. The engine revs, but doesn't produce any real usable power. (At least much less so than normal :P ) I've checked for vacuum leaks the best I could, (lit cigarette) both above and below the engine. Check the connections on the IAC, TPS, etc... Already replaced the CTS, just in case. Any thoughts here, fellas?

massive air bubble in the system still that's freaking out the CTS?

have you checked compression to rule out overheating damage?

How about your speed sensor? I read that it can cause idle issues and die when coming to a stop... any CEL's?

Did you check the crank sensor yet?

IMO when the hose blew it got all in the sensor.

Yes, check your connections at the Crank sensor and the Vehicle speed sensor. Both can cause issues like this.

And I doubt an air bubble will freak out the ECU that bad to cause this condition.

How can the VSS cause that issue? Is that if the sensor is bad and doesnt send speed or milage information? This makes me wonder if thats whats wrong with my car when coming to a stop..

Update:

I pulled the plugs and found that 2-4 look normal, But 1 is completely clean, as if it has never sparked. Plug wire was replaced still nothing. I pulled the connector on injector number 1 and found some coolant had made it's way in. Cleaned it out, still the same story. So that leaves two thing, Injector 1 is borked, or the coil isn't sending anything to plug 1. Does that sound right to you guys?

Update 2:

I replaced the coil, to no avail. I then replaced injector #1 (It's pretty handy having almost a full cars worth of parts in your garage.) The problem seems to have lessened, somewhat; But the car is still lacking a bit of it's usual power. I'm guessing another one of the injectors may be fried, so I'll replace the rest of them tomorrow. Any other thoughts?

(BTW, those two bolts that hold the fuel rail in place are a PITFA.)

Get some gloves on and pull that plug wire while the motor is running. If the idle gets worse, its not the problem. If it runs the same, theres a good place to start looking.

Get some thick rubber gloves on and pull that plug wire while the motor is running. If the idle gets worse, its not the problem. If it runs the same, theres a good place to start looking.

ficksed.

ignition systems won't kill you (unless you have a pacemaker) but they hurt quite a bit and the charge shooting through your arm tightens the muscles and makes it hard to let go.

I had to scream at my wife to shut the car off.

At this point I'm thinking it's the ECU, as I'm not getting any CEL's. WHich seems odd since the EGR is completely removed, and nothing is happening on cylinder 1.

No CEL's I have yet to do a comp test, or test the CAS.

New ECU, no change in the problem. Once I get paid, I'll buy another compression tester.

Test results:
Cyl 1 - 200 - (No change wet)
Cyl 2 - 210 - (No change wet)
Cyl 3 - 195 - (No change wet)
Cyl 4 - 175 - (210 wet)

Problem 1:
Ok, now I'm really confused. I pulled plug wire 1 while the car was running, at it got worse. The plug is new, and is gapped properly. Itlooks almost new, still. While the rest of the plugs appear as they should with normal wear patterns.

This one I'm at a loss on.

Problem 2:
Cylinder 4 has very low compression compared to the other cylinders. While it is still within service limits, this is now where I am focusing attention. Piston/Rings/Rod are new in this cylinder (Rebuilt within less than 1000 miles.)

Oil levels are normal, and my idiot pressure light isn't coming on.
Still no CEL's. There looks to be some oil intermingling with the coolant behind the engine from when the heater hose broke. (Can't tell if it's oil for sure, it may just be grime.) Do these seem like a symptoms of the top right head bolt bottoming out?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I would venture to say yes, that the bolt is backing out. Could be wrong though.

Curiosity, are the injectors known to be good?

Yeah, Tim; I swapped all the injectors out for known good ones, just in case.
