124243, can prothane inserts shrink? Posted by rshissler, Feb-23-09 12:39 AM
I got this kit a couple months ago and never got around to installing them and now when i went to install them the insert for the rear mount is to small to fit in the mount. Heres some pics Brand new mount from AutoZone

![]() This is all i can push it down on the mount.

To me it looks like the insert has shrunk for some reason. The other mount and insert fit fine together. Anyone else have this problem? Can the inserts dry out and shrink?

That one on the left looks like a defect mount. Maybe try beating it in with a hammer. Mine where hard to get in also.

i've heard of doing it with metal bushings and such. but you could try freezing your inserts. it may shrink them enough but it won't shrink them alot. if not take them to shop and get it pressed in.

The inserts are to small as it is, why would he freeze them and make them smaller??

yea both of the inserts are 2 small and they are really hard almost like plastic ( i guess there suppost to be really hard tho). Im thinkin maybe if i heat them up and press them in a vise i might be able to strech them enough to fit in the mount.

Those mounts are suppose to be a hard platic type material. I would try heating them up. Sounds like a good idea. Mine didn't fit that well either and I had to pry the mount bracket apart to get it to slip over the mounts.
