I recently dropped a built engine and different tranny into my 99, along with a HRC kit. First day she was up and running, the idle wasn't all that great yet b/c of a low fuel pressure issue I had to solve. Sometimes the engine shook excessively when at a stop sign, I figured I still needed to tweak a few things with fuel and idle.

Fast forward 70 miles as I drove it home. Get some gas and when I pull out of the gas station she starts to shake crazily at idle, almost dies at a stop light, and making squealing sounds. I park in the street outside my place, thinking this squealing/shaking must be b/c one of my clutch-to-flex plate bolts were backing out. Wasn't the case, they are all on there snug.

Turn on the car after checking those things, and the engine idled fine and I let her heat up, no roughness at all. I started to hear a squeal again, but it sounds like its coming from the P/S pulley. Weird that I change so many other things on the car and all the sudden something that didn't change starts acting up. What a confounder! Perhaps I tightened the p/s a/c belt too much or something.

UDP is on tight, cam gears on fine, timing belt pulleys look okay, oil pressure is always okay, shifts okay (still could do some minor tweaking to the clutch pedal), motor mounts appear snug...

I just want the engine and trans to be OK, LOL. Tired of having my car down!

Mechanical or hydraulic timing tensioner?

pull 1 belt at a time and see if the squeal comes back, if you end up removing both belts and the squeal is still there, then you know it's coming from under the timing cover.
