I just got a 55mm TB and the plate is smaller in diameter than the bore.

It's mounted flush to one side and the gap on the opposite side is about .030 when I hold it up to the light.

Wouldn't this royally screw up my idle?

I don't want to R&R the TB in that condition. I'm thinking it needs a new plate first.

Shouldn't they be a near perfect fit? Like the plate shouldn't be more than say .0005 (half a thousanth) smaller?

I couldn't find anything like this in the search so I really need someone who knows. Thanks again guys. :-(

Loosen both of the tb plate bolts, open the tb, wiggle plate and let it back down.

Ive had this happen on the Jeep TBs I made. Most of the time this will clear it up!

If you cant fix it that way you could always add a thin layer of JB weld and sand it smooth to make the gap smaller.

Yes, its incorrectly machined. Send it back to get it fixed, if you can. I got one like that from CI. I tried to contact them for the longest time but gave up.

I have made my own plates. It is a bit of a difficult, painstaking task to do without machinery (I did it by hand with a holesaw, grinder and sanding "items").

Depending on the amount of gap, it may or may not affect you all that much. I wouldn't do the JB weld trick.

Yeah Mark, it was slipshot machining. I could have done the backyard fabrication better than what they did. Luckily I got the use of a Bridgeport mill and was able to make it tits with the digital readout.

Glad to hear you were able to machine a new one. Having the right tools makes things sooo much easier sometimes.

OK, tried that to no avail. Did I mention that the plate shuts perpendicular to the body?

The problem is IMO that the plate is too small and the plate diameter is non-concentric to the bolt holes. (bolt circle) That's why it's all over to one side.

Made a new TB plate today-it fits very nicely now.

Looked like the old plate had the bolt pattern offset about .015/.020 and was sanded in on the fat side leaving the gap on the thin side.

Hopefully it'll stop raining this weekend so I can swap it out.

I've done timing belts in the rain before

you DO get wet doing that

lol, I love the rain but only work in it if I have to. Sunday's 'sposed to be dry. I'll wait. :-)
