I was wondering what everyones gag mpg was before and after turbo.

Im going turbo soon and was wondering what to expect in mpg difference.
I was thinking a 2mpg diff between non and turbo

Maybe a little worse driving around town, but I still get 30mpg highway with occassional boosting. (this is on 7 psi) I'd say I get down to a quarter of a tank by 250-275 miles instead of 275-300 when driving around town

I don't remember what my MPG was before turbo but my city MPG isn't the greatest now with the turbo but my highway MPG is 33MPG and thats with some boosting at 8PSI in there too. I'm sure my city milage would be better but I don't really baby it in the city so it tends to suck down gas more then it should.

holy shit, you guys are lucky as hell, from a full tank to a quarter of a tank, i get between 120-140, but the weird thing is, if i fill up at 1/4, it only takes like 8 or 9 gallons to fill it up, so what? does that mean i have another 8 gallons left in that 1/4 tank? or is my floater just screwed up?

the gas gauge is not relative to the level of fuel in your tank. 1/2 on the gauge is not 1/2 in the tank. That is why filling it up you see the inconsistancies.

On my daily stock talon i get about 400 to a tank.

On my MS eclipse boosting to 15psi, i get 300 to a tank. best i ever got just driving normal was 24mpg

Yah, you can't forget about the Phantom 1/4 tank. You know, the one where you look and see you have a 1/4 tank, then you look again, and you are on "E".

I still see about 300+ for each tank turboed. Highway mileage is still pretty good with some boosting in there. It all depends on how you drive your car.

I usually got like 22 MPG with turbo, I can't remember what I got hicomp turbo probably same but with hicomp NA I was getting 25-28

uh yea i just did some calculations, last tank i averaged 18.6mpg

lol

more fuel more fire

My first tank right after my last rebuild got me 15.5mpg thats with lots of boosting and city driving @ 16psi (includes races against two turbo integras, 350z, and a TT mustang)

I get a around 20mpg @ 14psi with horrible WOT fuel tuning. I don't expect to see much of a difference when it's tuned properly though.

I know this was for turbo'd 420A's, but I'll just throw this our for perspective...

I average around 22 MPG on my GSX (Evo III @ 23 PSI) which is about half and half city/highway. If you can stay off the boost (but what would be the point :)), turbo cars can actually increase gas mileage, since you are using spent exhuast gases to push the car. The problem is the amount of fuel used when you get on it...

WHAT? Please explain that one to me? How can a turbo INCREASE gas milage? Spent exhaust gas is not pushing the car, it is pushing more air into the engine, and more air = more fuel. The best you can hope for with a turbo is the same gas milage as you were NA, and to do that you would have to not boost at all. Turbo does not increase gas milage.

With that said, My gas gauge is so weird. I was driving home from school, on the highway, and on the first 1/4 of a tank I got 200 miles! I took a picture of it I was so shocked lol. But the rest of the tank only got me 207 more, so a total of 407 miles on 12.5 galons which is 32 mpg highway. City I get like 20 mpg

Under normal driving (no boost), you are right, the gas mileage will be the same. On WOT (or even half), you will obviously use a lot more fuel. However, if you were to go WOT on an NT car, and have a turbo car accelerate at the same rate, the turbo car will see better gas mileage. If I had the time, I work out the numbers for you using a stock NT 4g63 vs a T 4g63. Do some research to prove that I am wrong if you feel that I am.

Not putting into consideration the ecu fuel trims and ignition timing of WOT compared to part throttle, to maintain the same acceleration on a turbo car as an NT car, the turbo car still needs a little more fuel because turbos steal a tiny bit of horsepower because of the restriction in the exhaust(dont believe me? unhook your charge pipe and drive around, much slower then it was NT). Your basically making the general statement that turbo's can increase gas milage because you **CLAIM** they can possibly get better milage for an incredibly short duration at a certain rate of acceleration? :rolleyes

Turbo can save you gas. It does add weight and is a exhuast restriction but if you only use the turbo to get to your desired cruise speed and just cruise after that it will save you gas because you are getting to that cruising speed faster than a NA car you'd mashing it or giving it more gas longer.

A turbo will mainly save you gas on the freeway because what I explained.

My 280Z gets the same gas mileage it did before and after I turbo'd it.

I've noticed very little difference in fuel consumption since turboing, except for the outrageous gas prices.
