Ok guys, I have a couple questions and I did try to search but couldn't find anything directly about it. I spun a rod bearing and I changed the rod bearings and when I started it the crank was still making noise. I am going to order a used but inspected/reground crank with the matched rod and main bearings from eBay and I was going to get new front and rear main seals. Is there a seal of anykind for the oil pump other than RTV? Also, I have never pulled a crank before, but I had never done rod bearings before and I searched and found what I needed. Can I just take the oil pan and bedplate down and take it out from under the car with the engine in? I don't own a cherry picker yet. Or would I have to drop the tranny as well to do the rear main? I have the centermember off still because I just did the rod bearings and I got a new oil pan and gasket because mine was dented to hell.

Seeing as you're gonna have to unbolt the flywheel from the crank at some point, it's easier to pull the motor out to pull the crank. I'm sure it's possible to do it with the motor still in it, but I wouldn't because of the massive headache you'll get from it.

As far as the rod journal, you can take your crank to a machine shop and they'll turn & polish it for about $100 and tell you which rod bearings you'll need to buy for it.

To me, that's a better option than taking someone's word for it on eBay. you can also take your rods to make sure they're not out of round because our factory rods cannot be resurfaced.

Well my next question is I realize this is probabaly the easiest way to do it, but can I just pull the bedplate and be done because the I do not currently own a cherry picker/hoist/lift and was wondering if I could get at it from the bottom without having to buy a cherry picker?

Oh, and I also found a dohc neon at a u pull it so if I need a rod I can grab one.

You will have to remove the oil pump and remove the trans. only then can you remove the bedplate, oil pump and crank.

Since you will be removing the trans, how do you plan to support the motor since you cant put a jack under it?

Guess you will need a engine hoist.

I didn't think about it like that. Ok, I saw some nice electric winches at Harbor Freight that were pretty cheap. Guess I gotta get one.

Wait...lol What do you plan to attach the electric winch to? The Oak tree in the back yard? lol

If you plan to winch to the rafters in the garage, better take a few mins to really think that through. I can picture you screeming hiding under your car with the garage attic collapsed....}(

you could always rent something to do this with.

I mean, you could get creative, but it's always better to be on the safe side. Unless you have I-beams for rafters, I wouldnt' try a winch and pulley system.

I have a garage to work in. Not the biggest of garages but it works. Funny you mention that. That's exactly how my parents felt! Haha! After thinking it through some more I am just going to get a cherry picker.

hey man about ur spun rod bearings, im in the process of it right now and i found it is way easier to do wit the engine out, i took every thing out and striped my entire motor down in a weekend, now i just have to take the crank to a machine shop and get it fixed, and as far as the rods are conserned take them with two just to make sure that they are all good cause u don't want to have to do it all over again.

Yeah, that is the same thing I am going through now. I took my motor and trans out as one piece.
