123082, Trying to not give satan $90.00 Posted by Graph-X, May-28-06 02:23 AM
So, after the new motor went in (1k miles and runnin strong btw) I took out the secondary injection. I called satan and he said it would take $90.00 or my soul and first born to reflash the ecu. I don't feel either is worth it. Anyone know of a cheaper way to take out the cel code?

To reset the ecu, take off the neg battery terminal for about 20 mins- Not sure if I understand what exactly your asking.

It's a recall, IIRC, and they shouldn't be charging you in the first place but it's 90 bucks. Work some overtime. :shrug
Edit: I thought it was a recall but I guess it's only a TSB...

I just don't feel that 90.00 is a fair price to reflash an ecu. It's not that it's a super huge deal that the light is always on.

Trust me. I've paid dealerships more money for less results. Don't sweat 90 bucks man.

You're lucky they'll do it at all. I'd pay the $90 if you absolutely have to get the light off. If you're planning on using a MegaSquirt for fuel or spark at some point in the future, though, fuck it. I'vre got ~15 codes stored right now, what's one more for PSAI?

I told them exactly what I did, what code was flashing, and that they only needed to flash the ecu since "I'm capping the secondary injection myself". I think this time I'll listen to Dino, and wait till I upgrade to MS.

i'm still curious what happens if you walk in with just an ecu and tell them you need it updated? can't diagnose much without the car...

It come back though since the code in the computer is still looking for it. That's why they call it a reflash, since they get the computer out of thinking it's necessary to be there.

They tell you they need the car. Do dealers need some other type of tool to flash the ECU on a 95? Aren't the 95's sort of not really kinda almost there OBDII?
I have a good friend that works at a Dodge dealership and uses a DRBIII to access the ECU but it does it through the OBD port which kinda requires the car. I asked him about it and he said they don't have an OBDII simulator to act as intermediate between the DRB and the ECU. Just curious if it's different.

It is a recall. They do the reflash for free. Unfortunately they charge you a $90+ "fee" for "diagnosing" the problem so they can tell you they will need to re-flash the ECU for free.
Yes, it's illegal. But I didn't sue them, and you aren't going to sue them, so they're going to keep doing it. Welcome to Mitsubishi ownership.

Sure, now that I've figured out the macro mode on my camera. I'll do it tonight, don't have that car or the camera on me.
Only complication: That sticker is from a Dodge Dealership, since it's a Talon.

I've got a talon. No problem.

Basically, these stickers say the actual recall was done 7/1/99, and then the ECU was flashed "again" 10/1/04.
