122996, Running too Rich Posted by mitsumatt, Jun-01-06 06:20 AM
My car is running way to rich, it is dumping so much fuel the car wants to stall, after less than a minute new plugs are totally carbon fouled, I replaced the fuel filter, my friend is getting a code reader for me, anyone else have this problem?? and what was the fix, I have a new O2 sensor, could it be the coolant temp sensor?? my radiator fan doesn't kick on anymore, and my car will sometimes start and other times it won't

Assuming you checked your fuses and they are ok, I would try that next. You might want to check your fan relay and fusible link if we have one. It sounds to me like either you've got two seperate problems or your car could be dumping in so much gas it almost floods itself because the sensor is no longer giving a reading or reading too low and not turning on the fans.
If you want to I can sell you a brand new coolant sensor cheap. Rock auto messed up on my one order, I never got an email back confirming my order, so I placed another order. About two days later my order comes, I'm like "sweet it's here." Well, sure enough a day later my other order came. I only paid about 25 I think new. I can sell it for 20 shipped.

Yeah, I have checked the relays and fusable link, the thing that is weird is the temp sensor isn't that old, maybe there is a short in the wire, I mean the thing just bogs down, when you get on the gas, worse than my dirtbike ever used to!! LOL there is soo much carbon coming out the exhaust it is unreal, I guess I will test the sensor and the conncector tonight and see what I can find

Maybe check the wiring on the o2 sensor as well.

Yeah, I'll check that too, although it hasn't even been on the car a month, but I'll check it, can't wait till my buddy get ahold of a scanner!!

What year is the car? If, in the odd chance that it is, you have a 96-97, you can do the keydance for a basic answer to any CEL you might have. (Do you have a CEL?)
My bet is on CLT.

It's a 95 and there are no codes I did the keydance

Not always, I had changed the one in my Cavy right after I got the car about a year ago. Now my fan would not turn on either, no fuses for the fan on that car, no CELs either. So I bought a fan motor. That fixed it the first time. Then it quit working again, so I fugured well, it must be the relay, bought that still no go and when I took the old relay out the old harness was chewed up so I got a harness from a junkyard. I tried exchanging the fan motor again just to be sure, nothing. I bought another CLT sensor for it, just to be sure, and it still doesn't turn on. When it is in dignostic mode (for checking codes) it runs the whole time it is in that mode completely fine. I finally just dropped it off at the shop because I don't have the tools to diagnose it any further.

I don't care if the fan runs or not, it's hooked to a switch in my car, the running rich, almost stalling, and not starting and generally running like crap are my biggest concerns

Maybe your fuel injectors could be sticking, or maybe your fpr took a dump..

I guess the possiblities are endless!! LOL I'm gonna have to start narrowing them down, is there a way to tell is the FPR took a crap??

If yours is a 95 it is right on the passnger end of the fuel rail. I am not sure how to check it other than checking your fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
The injectors should tick if you listen to them. Use a long screwdriver and put it on the top of the injector. You can hear them ticking.

I had heard the injectors ticking, my buddy is supposed to bring me a fuel gauge to check the pressure too, but I might just go buy one, I need it anyways

I think they're only about $40 dollars at Advance.

Would the FPr cause the car not too start, I can't get this thing to start so they can read the codes
