For the past two months or so my car has been heating up, then cooling down, then heating up and cooling down. I can't give her a hard pull without it heating up abnormally.

Is this coolant temp sensor related? Or is it the sensor that switches on the fans, I'm not 100% sure, but I do not think the radiator fan is kicking on.

BTW, Dino, or someone who controls the CAPS, you do know that the sensor next to the coolant temp sensor has no description? #10801.

that sensor is just for the temp gauge . it sounds like your fan is not kicking on .i had that same problem . let the car idle til its warmed up and see if the fan kicks on .

So have you seen or heard the fans running at all???

I don't know if you have A/C but...

If you have the A/C turned on, both fans should turn on immediately regardless of the coolant temperature. With the A/C off, the driver's side fan will only turn on as the computer sees the need for cooling, based upon input received from the coolant temperature sensor.

Other things to know. With the A/C off, the driver's side fan will only turn on when the computer calls for cooling. In an RS, the driver's side fan has only one speed but the A/C fan on the passenger side has two speeds available when the computer calls for extra cooling.

Just hook up a toggle switch to control the fans manually, doesn't take but a couple minutes.

No I haven't heard the fans turn on, and I forgot all about turning on the ac to see if they turn on, I hardly use the ac, so I'll do that tonight.

If that don't work, toggle switch. Fuck it.

My 97 Gs with same thing, when I from home to work and back.
The engine puts out alot of heat, even atfer with an CAI installed.
I don't use the A/c cause it burns fuel quicker,I've watched the gauge and drove a good distance to notice after I filled her up.
Only the driverside stays on, stills puts out alot of heat.

I'm planning to buy a Carbon hood Evo style maybe this would solve this heat problem.

Is this common with 420a motors, what can we (I) all do to keep our 420a engine heat down. Would turboing the 420a be the best solution.

I've been here for awhile, and seen a thread about how to reduce 420a heating

How much is "a lot of heat"? Are you just opening your hood after driving and saying "wow this feels hot" or do you have an actual gauge? Second, turbos generate a lot of heat. If anything, you should run hotter after a turbo install, especially with a front mount intercooler.

That is normal. And just an update on my issue, I found after actually looking harder than I did at first, that the connection for the drivers side fan was extremely loose, causing it to sometimes work and sometimes not. So I fixed that, and it's all good. Also put on a new rad. cap and that seemed to work.

It was probablly the connection, but atleast you have some bling under the hood now. :)

Best thing to do is hardwire the fans to come on when the car is running.. i always had a problem with the fans never kicking on.. could always take out the thermostat also, depends on how much you drive it

I made sure it, since there is only one fan running if you have the a/c off, was running after I fixed the connection problem.
