But I am a little confused... is it yellow to yellow? or yellow w/ white to yellow w/ white? From what I've read, the colors remain the same throughout the car years.

Where do you splice the two wires? Can you splice the two at the ECU harness?

I have a 95 ESi 5spd, with the ECU removed, running a standalone, I just want my speedometer working again.

yellow / white at the sensor to yellow / white in the dash.

Where abouts are the wires? The yellow white from VSS, I can take from the ECU harness, but what's easiest way in finding the yellow white to gauge cluster?

What is the best way to do this?
Just vampire tap the wires?

Take it directly off the sensor, cut it, and run a wire intide th4e car. The yellow / white wire is located behind the instrument cluster in that bundle.

I prefer solder and shrinkwrap, personally. Vampire taps suck.

Definately. Solder, 1-2 layers of heatshrink tubing, plain old black wire loom, and zip ties is probably one of the best ways to do eletrical work in an environment with vibrations and chemicals. Eletrical tape gets gooey, becomes a mess, and eventually a hazard when you expose it to heat and petrochemicals.

Welp... age old problem.. hooked the yellow w/ white to yellow w/ white, and nothing.

How does the VSS get power? Or how do I even test if theres a signal coming from the VSS?

If you don't have a factory ECU installed, use the same power source that is powering your crank angle sensor to power the VSS.

If you do, verify you're getting ~9v on the solid yellow wire at the VSS, and ground on the black / green wire. The signal from the VSS is a high-low pulse.

you can ecen take the sensor out of the tranny, check all the connections and spin it in your hand to see if you get anything in the cluster.

Just curious...whats the easiest way to get to the sensor?

Remove the battery and the washer fluid bottle.

If you dont have the reservoir, and your battery is small, you can just reach in with one hand and a small rathet and out it comes.

What voltage does the speed sensor take exactly? 9V or 8V or does it matter?

Since the other sensors in my car are no longer stock and I am told take a higher voltage, is there a way I can hookup a resistor from the higher voltage source and power the speed sensor like that?

Or is there a simplier easier way I can get power to the speed sensor.

Hmm can't seem to find it. What do you mean it has its own power source? Isn't it shared with the stock cam/crank sensors which I no longer have...?

They all share the same 9v+ power source, buit have been rumored to work on both 5V and 12V.

Sorry to bring this topic back alive... can someone post the pinouts on the speed sensor? I seem to have lost the original harness that connects to it and need to make one my self, but I don't know which pin is what. Please orientate it in terms of where the connector clip is.
