i've been out of the 420a for a while and now my niece has an 96 avenger w/a bad block(crank,rods etc pretty much a co,plete rebuild is needed) but a freshly rebuild head
i can get a good block from a 03 neon r/t but it's like 100 miles away just to go check it out, i've trying/searching to find out if it's still the same block or if it'll fit w/out much hassle

first off they didn't make a r/t model for the neon in 03 but they did in 95-99 and yes that r/t neon block will fit. just call and ask if it is a dohc engine all neons with that will fit. other options you have are eclipse gs, or rs, or talon esi.

Actually YES they did make a RT model for the 03 Neons. They had SE, SXT, RT, and SRT-4.
Now about the engine working in an Avenger, I don't know the answer, but I am sure someone will give you one very soon.

Should be the same block. Pistons might be different, though.

Well if you have a good head from the avenger, the neon block being from a SOHC or DOHC shouldn't matter at all as that is referring to the head. Just slap your head from your avenger on the neon block and it should be good.

SOHC Neons use a flat top piston with no valve reliefs. You'd have to find DOHC or 2GNT pistons to run. Partsdinosaur.com has them cheap...

That statement is so false its not funny. The SRT-4 engine is a dohc, are you saying that block is a direct fit? I hope not.
