I am thinking of purchasing an AFX UDP and am wondering of how long it takes to recieve one from them.

$140 sounds very nice to me, when compared to $190 for the Unorthodox UDP from Ptuning.

Is Howell Automotive slow with these too? Or should I spring for the Unorthodox?

I'm changing my timing belt very soon (hopefully this weekend) and would like to add another toy to the car while I'm doing so.

A response from AFX with some sort of assurance of their speed would be great.

I also need to know the belt size for just UDP to P/S pump (no A/C or tensioner) BUT... I will use the search for that.

If anybody would like to compare and contrast these two pulleys it would be great!

well from what i have read, howell takes ages to deliver. and as from confimation from AFX about howells promptness, i dont think u can. the only reason why howell sells them (from what i heard) is because they wont sell directly to individuals. howell should have them in stock so once u place ur order it should be shipped ASAP, but for some reason they dont. ive been negotiating with Chamuko, since he bought one but got there AFTER he finished his rebuild so now hes trying/ or already sold it? i want to buy it from him! Chamuko bro, reply to my emails! as for UR UDP, i dont really have much info.

I placed my order with Howell for my UDP my new headers some injector Orings and ARP header studs on DEC 17 everything but the UDP was shipped immediately. I called and they said they were still at the machine shop. They Emailed me friday and shipped it out saturday I'll recieve it tomorrow as long as FEDEX is on time. If you call their tech line and ask for Todd he can tell you if they have them in stock still. If they are in stock they will ship immediately.

on the site it said "usually ships in 24 hours".. I'll email them and hopefully I get a reply. If I order tomorrow I'd like to have it by friday.

Trust me, call and verify. It's faster than waiting for them to return your email. Some times they miss an email and you might not get a response. I'll PM you the Tech Line number.

The one nice thing about the UR pulley is that you can seperate the insert via 3 bolts, I dont know if thats better or not for you.

There has been comparisons of theese two. Back in the Days it was this an intake and exhaust and you were riding around with the best money could buy for your car LOL.

As for the UDP, I do reply man. This is the second time you dont get it.

And those were expensive and hard to come by!

I was on ebay for a couple of hours looking for that wonderful deal... I found an ebay one (forgot the name)... weighs one pound and cost around $40 shipped. But I remembered what somebody else just said about those...

I don't know about you guys but my UDP was the hardest part about my rebuild I had to grind the old one off and then I still ended up with the center ring left on it and had to have my engine shop finish the job. Putting the new one on wasn't much easier...I had to heat it up in my oven to like 500 degrees before I attempted to put it on and it was a bitch to get lined up with the cams so that the belt was in the middle of the gears. IT SUCKED

I got mine in two weeks, i guess i was lucky.

It arrived today... I am looking at it now.... It is so very pretty.... So worth the wait. Can't wait to get it onto the car. Only complaint I have is that they forgot to send me the belts it's suppossed to come with. I'm gonna call Gary tomorrow and ask the proper belt size (and buy a set locally to get it running). Then see if I can get them to either refund me the price of a set of belts or send me an extra set so I can have spares.

I got it form them with in reasonable time something like 2 weeks with belts and everything. It was in a box wrapped in a recent news paper. So for $140 u get 1 aluminum pulley 2 belts and a recent newspaper. Sound like a good deal to me. When the belts start squeaking retighten them. If you live in cold climate and/or spend a lot of time in traffic with front + rear defogger on = battery warning light and low voltage. Warning Goes away after you start driving.

Over all very happy with it. Don't know about how much power it added but it is always nice to brag about it to people :P

I'd like to just have the reduced weight. I can live with less power steering, but I'd like to have a fully functional alternator.

I guess I'll just have to make my own UDP.

There was a very limited run of Aluminum pulleys to match the UDP. Makes up for under driving the alternator... nice piece worth the 25 bucks.

Well I say it's not too bad, try it. I got used to it. If I am stopped on a traffic light with AC+rear defroster+lights put it in neutral and give it some gas to 1k. try it. I did not notice any change in the power steering. Don't expect to run 2000W of music at you local hang out place while idling :p I still don't have a sound system in my car if you do and you do care for maintaining the voltage operable look in to what Chamuko is suggesting... I probably will.

I never had any problems with the AFX UDP. I used the proper tool and got the stock damper off without issue. The AFX on my car has been installed and removed I can't even remember how many times. Only issue I had was the delay in getting it. I was told they were in stock over the phone when I ordered it, but it somehow took a month and half for more to be made and shipped to me. :shrug

That's my one and only Howell Automotive story. :p

Ok, I'm looking at around 2 weeks to get it then.

I might just hold off on ordering it, I just realized how little money I have to work with... Forgot about all of the other stuff I'd need to buy with that (P/S Belt because I removed my AC)... Long story short.. not enough $$$.

I got mine in 2 weeks, and it was a good piece. They are more prone to squealing than Unorthodox UDP's, but have more underdrive so theoretically more engine power and less accessory power. They are a little soft too, if you drop them or mistreat them they will bend up badly. I removed and reinstalled mine many times without any problems with standard tools rented from Autozone. The reason the unorthodox pulley is 2-piece is because you have to drop the entire engine down to remove the stock or AFX pulley on some 2GNT's. The unorthodox comes apart and clears the crank-to-frame gap easier.

Ok, I think I will wait until I get my tax return and get the Unorthodox pulley, along with 2 new Gatorback belts.

Had the same thing, only after two weeks they said they got sent the first gen. Neon pulleys instead of the N/T DSM's. HAd to wait an extra two weeks. Oh well, at least I got the free belts.

Just a question, how hot can I heat it to make it easier to slide on? And I know the process of heating bearings, pulleys and the like to slide on, I do it almost everyday fixing 10 hp electrical motors.

I ordered mine back in Dec of 05, and I just received it like 3 days ago. One thing Howell is terrible at is communication. I ordered it with 2 day shipping (being the idiot i am) and when the 3rd day passed i checked online and it said the order was still processing. so I called them. I told them I had ordered the pulley and I heard him in the background asking if they had any and the guy said they didn't and they'd have to put one on the machine...so it took a long time. They never emailed me or called to give status so their service sucks!

I ordered mine a little over 2 weeks, ago, and I also payed for 2nd day shipping (only $3 or $4 more), I ordered it on a tues night, expecting it to get here that friday. Well I waited 2 days and it didnt ship, so i called them. he said they would be out the coming tuesday, Well, I that came around, and it was still "processing" so i called them the following tuesday, and they said it was in the mail for the next day.. Well it ends up that it wasnt, and that It ended up being shipped out wed night, I eventually got it the following monday. Well, i got it installed for cheap, and its the best mod out there, too bad you have to go through howell for it :-\
