122011, Middle aged dad turned kid again needs some help!!!! Posted by damooch, Aug-29-06 01:28 PM
Ok.My newly rebuilt motor has been running perfect. It has not leaked or lost a drop of fluid whatsoever.I finally hit 500 miles so I did my oil change Monday.Oil was clean,Everything looked great.I went with 10w30.All the sudden my valve cover gasket is leaking along the back side :wtf .I havent been beating it up or anything.I just thought it was strange to start leaking as soon as I changed the oil.I made sure it wasnt over filled too(about 20 times).Tommorow,I will take it back to the shop.Im sure they will take care of it for me,I just never heard of this before...Anyone have any insight????Could switching from straight 30 weight to 10w30 do this????

It happens. I wouldn't be too worried about it. I would hope they warrant their work for at least a thousand miles, though. For future reference, you might want to be prepared to do this job yourself. It's one of the simplest and more rewarding first mods you can do. :thumbsup

Nice, clean engine. How many quarts of oil did you put in? It's possible the valve cover gasket was pinched when the engine was rebuilt. Is it leaking along the VC or is by corners (camshaft)?

They gave me a 12,000 mile warantee so all should be cool...It seems to be leaking in both back corners of the valve cover...Does it just need to be re-torqued?????Oh yea about 4 1/2 qts of oil.

Since it's under warranty, I probably wouldn't mess with it. They might find a way to "void" the warranty if you did something to it. It's probaby something as simple as crushed VC seal, or the VC isn't torqued down enough (although not very much is needed). I'm just thinking maybe it's the cam seals not seated properly or not enough gasket sealer. :shrug

Very nice too. Again lol.. You don't want to over torque it, cause you'll crack the valve cover. Happened to my old grocery getter(wagon) when I was married. Sorry, no offense.
Cool, Greddy headers. I'm putting them on mine too.
Oh,I'm a middle aged(30) divorced dad, became young :thumbsup

or you could grab an 8mm socket and see if any of the bolts are even a bit loose. :shrug
