hey guys i just bought a car with one bent valve ... i have an extra head here from a car i was parting out ... the valves and everything are in the head i just have to pop it on and torque it down ... now my question is ... can i clean the head with out have to take out the valves and stuff ??? what shouldi use ?? degreaser ?? wd 40 ??? will it destroy and seals ? also what else should i change in the head itself as far as gaskets seals and all that to have a car to drive around in until my spare motor is done being built ? the head im putting on has 2000 miles on it...

I would think that if it wasn't disassembled you would run a risk of ruining the valve stem seals and possibly a couple other things, but I can't tell you for sure. If I were you, I would probably take it all apart if your gonna clean it, just to be safe.

a head with that little miles i wouldn't replace anything i would just get a new head gasket a cheap one if your not useing it that long, and new head bolts. and why do you want to clean the head if it only has 2000 miles on it isn't it pretty clean already.

well its been sittin at the warehouse for like a month and its kinda dusty in there and it wasnt covered real good ... if i take it completely apart how hard would it be to put it back together ?? valves and stuff is that too muc hof a bitch ?
i just dont want there to be any dirt or possibility of fuckin the head up since i will use that one once i finish my bottom end rebuild
BTW thanks for the fast replies

I wouldn't be worried about a little dust, it would just get burned up immediately. Small pieces of dirt or something, that you should be worried about. But if there is no chance that anything big got in it, just take an air gun to it and blow it out until you're happy. Other than that I agree with the last guy, just throw on a hg, torque it properly, and drive it on.
