Is it possible for us 420a guys to do a stroker engine?

I have a 2.0l.

I found on slowboyracing.com some stroker engine rods/pistons...

I'm guessing it is possible, but what kind of crank would I need... could I just get my stock crank re-machined or would I have to get a "stroker" crank?

What other parts would I need to complete the 420a stroker... sorry if this is a repeat question... but please point me in the right direction I could not find anything on stroker engines anywhere and all my friends want me to do the stroker engine because they all have muscle cars with a stroker setup and I want to say I have a frickin stroker setup also!

You would have to have a stroker crank installed. Howell Automotive offers a stroker package, I believe. Another option is a long rod motor. Try searching performance/engine forum for "long rod" by subject. You can try searching "stroker" the same way to get more info on the stroker for our cars.

B Dog, a long rod motor isnt always a stroker.

edit: and yes, its possible for us to do strokers just like anyone else. offset grinding the crank is a great way to go. also sometimes you can weld on it and machine it, but you might find cracking problems. offset pins and piston heights, deck heights, big deck plates with altered rod lengths...you can do whatever you want but it costs.

I didn't even realize it could be. :thumbsup I was suggesting long rod as an alternative to a more expensive stroker kit. Higher revs and more torque sound more favorable to me, anyway.

rod length to stroke ratio is really important if youre thinking of doing like a rod length change, or stroker crank and and longer rods, etc. its the center to center measurements that matter. formula one rod ratios for example are insane, and daily driver cars arent designed with the same 18k redline in mine, so everything changes to what youre building it for.

anyway to figure out rod ratio, its the length of the connecting rod divide it by the stroke of the crankshaft.

a long rod ratio like formula one style 1.8~2.1 can wind up and there is less stress on the piston skirts and cylinder walls, but a shorter rod ratio gives more bottom end torque like what you would see on a deisel engine or a truck or something like a bus

DR1665 is right Howell Automotive does have a stroker kit. I was going to get that stroker kit from Howell but found a local shop in my area that could get all the parts a little cheaper. Also there is only one manufacturer that makes a forged stroker crank that I could find and that was Callies its the same crank that Howell sells in their kit. The other option which you mentioned is to re-machine your crank.

Also the stroker kits at slowboyracing are for the 4G63 not for the 420A. The rods they are selling(Stroker 5.608") I believe are the same rods as Howell's Long rod kit, reach is different than an actual stroker kit.

You could always go nuts and buy a 2.6 liter stroker engine. Its only $7,500. :D
