121567, thinking rebuild...please advise
Posted by Phoenix10, Aug-11-06 02:42 AM
hey guyz! i'm in Miami and found a 99 special edition eclipse, torn up from last years hurricanes, that i had to have. problem...110K after doing research on the 2.4L swap and ending up not knowing which direction was up n e more, i learned about the Howell Master Performance Kit for the 420a. it sounded much less complicated and the price seems resonable but i couldn't find much feedback on it. i'm assuming some1 has used this kit already. is it n e good?

as far as goals go...i'm looking to make at least 300 to the wheels, i wanna go turbo and maybe nitrous as well. i have a reputable shop ready to do the work. does it sound like this kit will work for me? what else will i need to buy, in addtion to the kit, to get this car ready to reach that goal? thankx in advance for your replies.

That kit should be all you need homie. Try and score a used block though, and have it checked thoroughly by a reputable shop. It will lessen downtime.

With the 8:6 CR, you can run a decent amount of boost, albeit on a good tune. 300whp is easily attainable with those internals and a good tune.

Good luck.

Just thought I would jump in here and let you know that double posting (in any forum) is frowned upon :-( . I'm guessing that you weren't sure of which forum to post in.

The kit is great and Howell is a reputable company. If you search you will find that some have had problems with delays but their products are excellent.

yikes 3000 dollars for that kit and with the turbo kit will be around double that total. I think you should just buy a GST for that much, 300HP is a lotta power I'm sure you could get it with that kit. Lets j ust say I've spent too much money and time on my car to just get rid of it but if I think back I shoulda just gone with a GST.

i can definitely c ur point when u add it all up, but finding a 2nd gen GST that WON'T require a rebuild before a turbo capable of giving me the hp that i'm looking for is a long shot. isn't it? furthermore, i've haven't had it long but my ride has already been dropped on 18s, it has a full body kit and new paint job so i'm ALREADY in it to win it. lol

thankx again for all ur advice and patience ya'll.

LOL! No sweat. I think the real angry guys are now on their way to the Shoot Out anyway :P . No, J/K.

The reason for the BANME is because if you write in a bad word that needs to be edited (like boon spelled backwards) this will come up instead. Kind of a simple reminder.

Good luck with your choices.
