just wanted to share my latest mod. went to radio shack and bought an inside/outside thermometer for my car. it is about 1 inch by 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inches, black with a digital readout. it has a small probe on the end of a 10 foot wire that goes out to measure the outside temp. i inserted the probe into my cai, the inlet where the hose from the exhaust manifold meets the intake pipe. the readout is mounted under the radio, in front of the shifter. anyone here done this, im interested to see the rusults, and how long it lasts.

It should last you a long time as long as you ran the wire away from anything that would melt it.

Now can you do somthign to make the temp drop? Heat shielding on the underside of the intake tube? Something like that.

I've got the exact same thing, all the way down to the mounting of the readout by the radio. I use it to test out cold air intakes and heat sheilds. Can't beat it for $10.

Hey Corbin, what results/conclusions did you come up with? What type of heat shields did you test etc. Let me know what you found out I may be interested in some mods ;-)

I don't know what my problem is, I'm always trying to get cold air into my engine. I keep making and modifying airboxes or heat shields trying to get cool air. When I was N/A, I eventually built a box that partially sealed against the underside of the hood and had a pipe that got air from the bumper. That one worked really well and took me several versions to get it right. Now that I'm turbo, I've tried about 4 different airbox/heat sheild ideas. Right now, I've built a polypropylene air box that seals against the hood pretty well. Only problem is there is no room to run a pipe to get cool air. I keep thinking about making a scoop in the "power bulge" in the hood to pull air in. But that would take alot of time and money. It probably wouldn't make much of a performance change, especially since its got a turbo/intercooler and 10 feet of piping to go through before hitting the engine. I really need to mount the temp sensor at the throttle body to see if cold air at the filter makes that big of a difference.

well after a full 24 of having this on im pleasantly surprised. on freeway(i commute 25 miles to and from work), the temp drops a solid 40 degrees from stand still. i am going to insulate/heat shield the pipe, and have some other mods in mind to drop air temp also.

to you guys that have this, what is the difference in the intake temp in comparison to the temp outside?

to the guys that dont, invest the 10-15 bucks, it a cool little mod.
